Hey there. I'm new around these parts (and a bit shy) but I thought I'd give you guys a "go". I met for my first surgeon consult this week and as a result need to obtain a basic psych eval and get a sleep test done. I'm in Northern Delaware and am wondering if anyone has a great recommendation for where/to whom to go. Thanks & here's hoping your summer brings peace!

Welcome Susane first of all and second which doctor did you consult with?

Thanks for the welcome. I met first with Neil Marymor at the Barix Clinic in Langhorne. He's the doctor who's requested a sleep study (the possibility of sleep apnea exists, not because I snore but because I'm lightheaded and dizzy when I wake up and I frequently have difficulty falling asleep! Interesting...I never knew that!). He also requires a basic psych-eval from all of his patients.

Welcome Susane I went to Wilmington Hosp. If your insurance allows, I think Union Hosp in Elkton is the soonest. Give them all a call.

Hi Susane and welcome!! I saw Dr. Margaret Keenan at PMRI (302-661-3000) on the advice of the first psychologist I called (someone I knew). She was suggested as someone very familiar with the issues involved---and therefore familiar with what is required for such an evaluation. I was able to get an appointment pretty quickly with her. I paid out-of-pocket, so did not need a referral. As far as the sleep study, you may need to get a referral from your PCP. I went to St. Francis, but they can be slow in scheduling you. Hope this helps, Martha

If you want to get in quick, Riverside Sleep Center in Northern Wilmington seems to always have available slots. I'm sleeping there on Sunday night. It should be my last sleep test and I may have to turn in my CPAP machine after having it for five years. Rob

Congratulations! Tonight's your last sleep test! I appreciate the tip about Riverside; I'll be giving them a call to see what the set up is. Thanks a lot!

Hey Susane, how is your summer going?? I didn't know you were going to get in for your consult so soon. I was just thinking of you the other day but I only have your work email address & figured you would not be checking that for a while. Did you end up seeing doctor Wynn? If so - they should have refered you to PMRI which takes care of the phyc eval, dietictian - nutrition class etc. Prior to meeting Dr. Wynn, I had a sleep study done at Saint Frances (so did Steve - we were their first husband & wife team lol) So - when I met Dr. Wynn, I did not need the sleep study done. I think Dr. Wynn's office refers you to a pulmonologist and they either rule out the need for a sleep study or set it up?? I really don't know for sure. But if you are setting it up directly I can tell you that I just called the St. Frances number that I found in the phone book & they forwarded me to the right area & got everything set up. PMRI is in Wilmington off of Rt 52 & that is the place that also hosts some of the support group meetings. I think the next one there is mid August. There are a couple of other groups in the area - I'd encourage you to check them out. Even though I have not mostly due to time, the people I have met are pricless. Talk to you soon.
