When I went for my consultation appointment today, I mentioned to Dr. Irqau that my mom asked me why I didn't go to a hypnotist to get hypnotized in believing that I had the surgery and then just start eatting like one would after the surgery. Anyone else ever think of that one? Rose

Rose, I went to a hynotist about 11 yrs ago to stop smoking. It worked like a charm. I am in the 10 percentile group that goes into a deep slumber while under hynosis. I am extremely easy to go under. He then tried to do it for weight loss about 4 times. Unfortunately it didn't work. Good try though. Bring your Mom to the support meetings. Most of us have tried hundreds of weight loss attempts that don't work. It is so frustrating to go on a diet, loose and then stop, & ultimately gain more than you lost. WLS for me has been a gift from heaven. In a mere 6 months I'm down 111 lbs. YIPPPPEEEE!!!! and I still don't smoke. I'm happy. ((HUGS)) Elissa

Rose, Hhhhmmmmm ... that may very well be one he had not heard before. I stand corrected when I said that likely you would not be able to ask him anything he hasn't already heard!!! Hope you had a good visit with him!!! Hugs, Tammy

yes what was his response??? I would've loved to see his expression. Im sure he was surprised to hear that one! heh. My mother has tried hypnosis for weight loss and she said it didnt work but she felt better than she felt in years!!! So its absolutely wonderful for stress!!! I think I will make an appointment!!! hee hee. I find that I am pampering myself more and more lately. Elizabeth M

A woman in my office suggested that I try accupuncture. Everyone will have a suggestion. Since I'm pre-op, I'm starting to get tired of people who have never had a weight problem trying to tell me how to "fix" being fat. Bottom line - It's your body and your decision. Don't let anyone (including the folks on message boards) talk you into or out of anything that you think is right for you. Educate yourself. Talk to people and professionals. Pray (if you are a spiritual person). Then - do what you know in oyur heart to be right for you. My Mom has been sending me article about some epilepsy drugs that cause weight loss as a "side effect". Why don't I just take these pills? I've been sending her back articles about the OTHER side effects of those drugs. Trust me. Even people with epilepsy don't want to take those pills! Think about it logically. If pills worked or hypnosis worked or accupuncture worked, wouldn't we all know people who had lost 100's of pounds and kept them off with those methods?
