It's got caffeine in it which is not very good for your new stomach. Rob

Caffeine is also a diruretic.. and we need as much fluids as we can get. T

According to Danielle at PMRI, caffeine also interferes with the absorbtion of certain vitamins and minerals. That's something that we can't afford to have happen after we've had surgery. Cassandra

This was a question I had too. I asked Dr. Irgau at my last visit and he told me that I could have 1 serving of caffeinated coffee in a day. He told me that I could have as much decaff as I would like. I'm like you - I really need just a little to get my morning going; but, I don't want to do anything to mess up my progress. Take care! Hello Lydia, I was also told that caffeine can dehydrate you but you are allowed to have decaf. Christie

I usually do one caffeinated coffee a day. I use either Maxwell House or Folgers haf caf formulas, or if I'm out at stop at Dunkin Donuts I ask for half reg half decaf. Works for me so far and I've had no problems with this. if I drink any more in the course of the day I stick to decaf.

I suppose that will work for me, I can tell the difference between reg and decaf. So I don`t know if I will ever be able to give it up completely. I`m also a purest, I drink it with out anything elsein it. Thanks for the info

Lydia, I was a HUGE coffee drinker prior to surgery and have to tell you one of the hardest things was thinking I would have to give up my 3 a day espressos -- yep, the "high-octane" stuff! Like others have said, I also heard that decaf was the only thing we were supposed to have after surgery. I also heard that it should be no more than 16 oz. TOTAL per day because of the loss of fluids and altered absorption of vitamins and minerals. What I have done, and it helped, is try several different decafs until I found one that was "almost" as good as the caffinated ones. Usually if you get whole bean and a grinder you get more flavor (at least I think so!). Plus there are many different ways to brew coffee and I switched over to a French Press (and that seems to make a bolder flavor coffee). Or if I am making drip coffee I use more scoops than I would if it was caffinated. So I hope this helps! Also, before surgery, I used to love Starbucks coffee and not care for Brew Ha Ha's. After I had surgery, I prefer Brew Ha Ha to Starbucks. A lot of your food tastes change, and in my case, also my coffee tastes! GOOD LUCK!
