Topic: Change in insurance - I am so depressed!
This is my first post and I need some support. My insurance coverage changed after Jan 1 and I am going to have to postpone my surgery indefinitely. It is only covered at 50%, and no out of pocket max applies, so I have no idea how much I would have to pay. I just know before I was looking at $1000 max, and now it could easily be 6 times that if not more- no one knows. I am finishing my 6th nutrition class but cancelled all my clearance appointments and don't know what I am going to do. This was my last hope. I have been getting heavier and heavier for 20 years and I am exhausted all the time and everything aches. I can't garden or play with my kids. Half the time I can't even go shopping because it's too hard to walk around for long. I cry all the time. It's all I can do to drag myself out of bed and go to work every day, and I come home exhausted and barely functioning. My husband tries to be supportive, but I am not sure he knows how bad I feel. Help!!
Topic: RE: Two people, same surgery. Both with complications??
Hey there
I had my surgery on August 10th. I had to stay in the hospital an extra day because my BMs were pure blood. It ended up just being residual blood from the surgery. Everything was fine.
One month after surgery I started having abdomenal pain. Several catscans and ER trips later Dr. Irgau did an emergency surgery to discover what the pain was from. Since all my tests came back normal. Come to find out I had an adhesion and internal hernia.
Even with those two issues this has been the best decision I have ever made. At 7 months post op I've lost 111lbs and feel amazing.
All things come with risks, but if you ask me the risks are slim and the rewards are many.

You may want to call CHRIAS, as I was there a few weeks ago, and I think I saw a handout advertising one. It may have already happened...I don't know for sure. Good luck!
Topic: Two people, same surgery. Both with complications??
I'm planning on having the RNY in the future. I've done my research & I feel it's right for me.
But, I know two people that have had the surgery & both have had complications.
My uncle had the surgery in 2005 & within 2 weeks, he had a knot in his bowel. If he would have been a few minutes more getting to the hospital, he would have died. He didn't take very good care of himself during the two weeks though, so I thought it was just him.
My best friend had RNY surgery on Feb. 23rd, so just about 2 weeks ago. He was doing really good. Eating exactly what he was supposed to & taking his meds correctly. I was at his house on Tuesday & he had already lost 12 pounds. But last night, his Mom calls he panicking saying that they took him to the hospital. I asked her what happen & she said that my friend said he had diarrhea all day, then he stood up one time & got really light headed, she said his face was white as a ghost. He said he went to go take a shower & when he came out, there was blood everywhere (he said he was pooping blood). His mom immediately called 911 & they took him to the hospital & admitted him. He said he doesn't feel bad, he just has to run to the bathroom every 5 minutes. He's now in his room but won't talk to anyone, so nobody knows what's wrong with him. Does this sound familiar to anyone?? Any ideas what could have happened?
I'm obviously rethinking my decision, even though I still want to get the surgery. Anyone have any insight about this?

Last I remember they did them a couple times a year, but when the last schedule came out ... support groups were only once a month on Mondays and they had no clothing swaps scheduled.
Sorry I can't help more.

Thanks. The clothing swap only happens once a year? I know there was one on the 19th, I was under the impression that they did them more than once a year.

The clothing swap wasn't on the schedule this year for the PMRI support groups. If one comes up I will be more than happy to post.

Topic: RE: Pregnancy after WLS?
Yes it is very possible to get pregnant after WLS. In fact it becomes easier to do so. It is recommended to wait until
the weight is off before trying, in fact many docs ask that you use precautuions until then. The reason is that there is a 12-18 month window to lose weight easily. If you use that time being pregnant you will indeed lose precious time. Would it be impossible? No, just harder.
