I believe there is one in Clayton. I'd have to look back at my PMRI paperwork.

When I wenrt in for my consultation with Dr. Wynn I was bound and determined that I was going to have the band done.   I had done all the research and everything and "knew" it was right for me.  But after during my consultation Dr. Wynn recommended that by-pass for me.

In all honesty it really threw me for a loop.  At that time I really didn't know what I was going to do.  I went ahead and started the process as an undecided and went home to do soem research and talk to friends who had had both the band and the bypass.  It took my about a week to come to terms and really embrace the fact that I had decided to have the bypass ... and it was the best decision for me.

You are not alone.  Just know that it is ultimately your decision and if it takes you a while to be confident in that decision then so be it.

Good luck with your journey,
Kris

I'm sure you will be fine.  I was supposed to have my gastric bypass on 07/13 but had to postpone to a cervical spine surgery that was very successful.  Now I am 4 weeks out from my gastric bypass and just finished the final weight as a requirement for insurance approval.  Hopefully everything will go well and there will be no problems with the insurance approval for me.

But I truly know what you are going though right now.  You are doing really well and all you have to do is keep focused on the end result, which is a new improved YOU.  Right now, for me there are days when I'm ready as ever to get things started and have the sugery.  But recently things for me have been very difficult mentally and stress-wise, but I just take each day as it comes and have faith in the ultimate decision that the surgery is right for me.

But I just want to know that you are doing great.  Keep up the good work and have faith in your ultimate decisionl.  Nerves get the best us us someimes but don't let them over-ride you.

Best wishes in your upcoming surgery.

Dr. Peters is very nice. He did my pre-surgery appointment, and answered all my questions very well.

One concern I have now is yesterday I visited a dermatologist for a discoloration on my lower back. He did a biopsy of the spot but won't have the results for two weeks and surgery is scheduled for Monday.

He said he was confident it was nothing and that it was no reason to postpone surgery, but I'm a little nervous.

I think pretty much everyone feels as you do at one time or another.  For me, it was the day before surgery.  I woke up and decided, "Heck no, I'm not doing this!"  I called my sister (who had gastric bypass in 2000) and said I really think I'll try dieting and exercise again.  She said "So how has that worked for the past 30 years?"  I decided to go ahead with the surgery but I was petrified right up until the surgery.  Doctor Peters was great but just laughed when I said how scared I was.

I had my surgery last November.  No problems, no complications.  Our group of doctors is very good......relax and try not to think about it.   You'll do great!

I am a scardy cat and I freaked out when I had to go under for my wisdom teeth but I am really trying to stay positive with this!!! I think about that I've done 7 days on a liquid diet and there are only 7 to go!! You can do it! There are always going to be more and more complications if you don't have the surgery! Stay strong ans stay positive. Think about the good days ahead when you feel better about yourself inside and out. Think about looking in the mirror and being happy. It will be ok and we will be here comparing our great success stories in months to come! CHEER UP!!!

A week from today will be my Gastric Bypass (pending insurance approval). I'm so scared. I've been on Optifast for a week now, with another week to go and I've lost 10 pounds.

Saturday night I had a melt down.... I wanted food, real food (I didn't cheat though), my mind started racing all these negative thoughts started flowing in. I started seconding guessing my decision, so then I decided to get on the complication forums here adn absolutely tortured myself reading the horrible stores.... I was in tears and ready to cancel surgery this morning.

Since then my wife has calmed me down as well as some help from folks on OH. I'm still so scared though.

I just want to say that having a band is not taking the easy way out. It is just as much work if not more than the by-pass. Us banders have more follow up appointments due to fills than by-pass patients due.

I also want to add that at the end of 3 years banders and by-pass patients have on average lost the same amount of weight. It just takes us banders a little longer as we have up to 3 years to lose it and by-pass usually lose it in 18 months.

No bariatric surgery of any kind is the EASY way out.
