Topic: What are you barbequing this weekend.....
I am hoping to barbeque all weekend. This year, my daughter and I discovered that we absolutely love grilled vegetable kaboobs.
To make them we use small portabella mushrooms, green and red pepper, onion, summer squash and zucchini. I spray them lightly with Trader Joe's olive oil spray and cook on the grill.
We also found Dr Prager's vegetable burgers at Trader Joes that are really good...especially with a slice of melted swiss cheese on a whole grain hamburger roll.
We have also grilled the large portabella mushroom tops.....so yummy.
And of course for dessert......something we discovered last year. We grilled peaches on the grill. I sliced the peach in half, removed the pit and grilled on a low heat. It tasted like peach pie without all the calories and fat.
I would love to hear what you are grilling.....

Hi Joanne...my left bionic knee is awesome. I love it. No pain and I have full extension. The only thing I cant do is kneel on my knees for any length of time. I do have a very gifted and talented surgeon....who knows what he doing. It was worth it.....but I hate pain and am such a whimp.
Tonight, I am going to try a few minutes on the exercise bike and the treadmill just to see how things are going. My right knee only hurts when I move it.

I have been surprized many times with the hidden calories that are in restaurant food.....plus all the extra sodium.
They butter the rolls before they toast them and use them for the hambergers. I have gotten to where I ask for a plain dry roll or plain toast when I order a sandwich.
I have found that I am best when I order a salad with the dressing on the side.

Don't want to put a downer on eating out! Just wanted to remind people to be careful out there. It's so important to make sure what we enjoy it and continue to make wise choices.

Chili's is definately not one of my favorite places to eat. I always tend to get sick there.
Last night, we ate at Buffalo Wild Wings. For me, its the last time I will eat there. Split a burger with my husband and it was so dry, it didn't stay down long and what did, sat in my stomach way too long. I was miserable. I don't want to even think about calories... ok, I'll look....
900 calories for just the burger! I consumed about 1/3 of the burger. Still too many calores.
Rob, thanks for opeining my eyes to dining out.

I had a great day. No customers yelled at me and my company took our work group out to dinner at Cool Springs in Dover. Very good seafood!
Most of the group then went to Dover Downs. Must be time to gamble!
Me? I just went home. I work too hard to loose my money.

Topic: Friends
Not sure how this works, or whyy I think of these things. I was trying to come up with a list of all my friends prior to my surgery almost seven years ago, and the people that I now consider my friends.
Growing up overseas and moving every other year, I have never had the typical set of childhood friends that a lot of people have. So I consider friendship a valuable asset. My college years were filled with drinking buddies. My early work years were also filled with a lot of drinking buddies. Then as my weight blossomed I just sort of sat down on the couch and waited for my friends to come to me.
Post surgery I have developed an amazing set of friends within my RNY journey. Too many to talk about. Two people who have always had a special place in my journey are Edna (my German/Australian cook) who convinced me that if you follow the rules you'll be successful, and Tammy who listened to my early stories about my journey and posted amazing nutrional information that kept me motivated and honest. There are so many otther from all of our support groups in DE who I looked forward to hearing their inspirational stories every month. I can't mention all their names because there are just so many.
Outside of Delaware, I have an amazing set of gastric bypass friends who conttnue to amaze me with their feats. Who would have thought that I would be friends with triathletesd and marathoners from Washington, Texas, California, New York, and all across the United States.
So then I have a new core group of friends here in Delaware. Why else would I be up at 5am every Saturday and Sunday weekend to ride and cycle. My running partner has pushed me well beyond my limits, training me for a marathon. learning how to cycle, so she could compete with me in dualathlons. A constant thorn in my side, she continues to make me complete every run during the week, and go harder on the weekends. My spin instructors at my old gym also took me under their wing and have included me in all of their family events. I have also developed deep friendships with several wonderful people. The common trait for all these people is that they have non-stop motors.
So, in summary, I have found that my new life has been highlighted by all of the new friendships that I have developed. So friends, I need to hear from you and find out how your life has changed. Sometimes you just have to post whatever comes into your head (and boy do I get a lot of stuff in this head).

OK, Chili's is definitely the place not to go without some forethought. Decided to go out with some co-workers for lunch, and they chose Chilis since it's not too far from work. I went there for lunch and decided I was tired of chicken and salads and how bad is a burger. Well, I ate 3/4 of the burger and left all the fries. It was not that good. Greasy and large. Got back and googled Chili's
Ground Peppercorn Burger w/ Bleu Cheese As Served 1520 caloies
So even taking off 400 calories for fries that is just too many calories. I spent the rest of the day with a big piece of meat hanging in my stomach. I'm actually lucky I didn't dump off all that grease. Lessons learned. Was it worth it... No, and my running partner made me pay for it tonight with a 5-mile run. So back to planning and thinking before I go out on my next luncheon. I'll be workng this off the holiday weekend. Just wanted to be accountable to all my DE buddies.

Good evening from Lower Slower Delaware ! What kind of day is all having. Last night I went to Harrington Slots with 2 of my nieces for the seafood buffet. It was packed. I did very well. I only ate crab legs and a bite of cheesecake. Was very happy with myself. Had good company and free meal for we had free tickets along with about 3000 other people. They were turning people away. I had not been there in several years. I am really trying to get out once a week and do some adult fun. Since Bob passed away I really thru myself into my grandkids and work. I finally realized I need time to have fun too . My granddaughter struggles everytime I step out. Last night I handled it very well. After a call from her I stood my ground and told her she was to do what I had planned for her and I went on with my night without feeling guilty. This is a long story but a big stepping stone for me. I have been cooking healthy and planning all week and really feel proud. July is really going to be a busy month for both Debbie and I. We both work inprivate home care ,taking care of a 92 year old man. We all call him Poppop. There was 5 of us who work there. We are down to 3 people giving 24 hr. care. One person is on maternity leave and one person broke her right ankle and left foot on Sunday. We will be working 50-60 hrs a week to get thru July so if we are not on every day you know why. I will post all I can. OK now how was your day ? See you lighter. Joanne

Judy, That is a wonderful post. Thanks so much for posting. I would love to hang a copy of that next to my before and after pictures to read everytime I struggle. My faith tells me the devil wants us to struggle and he puts temptation out there everyday for he knows our weaknesss. I love the way this person writes and how she or he faced the temptations. I bet everyone reading this FEELS IT ! See you lighter. Joanne
