Fish Zole (Flagyl)

I went to my HUMAN doctor today and actually got an Rx for Flagyl. Up until now I have been taking metronidazole (Flagyl labeled for fish) called Fish Zole which I keep on hand for my animals if they are having diarrhea issues. It can be ordered without a prescription: http://tinyurl.com/jnzbn So, I had my SUSPICIONS all along that this stuff labelled for fish was the same thing as is prescribed for humans (although the label on the Fish Zole says not intended for use in humans). The tablets I got today at the drugstore with a prescription are EXACTLY LIKE the Fish Zole except that instead of saying "PLIVA 333" and being round they are oval and say "FLIVA 334." That's just because I had been taking 2 of the 250 mg. and I got the script today for the 500 mg. If you look up the metronodizole 250 mg you get this: http://tinyurl.com/femet This IS the SAME TABLET as the FISH ZOLE I've been taking just as I suspected! And let me tell you, this stuff does wonders on gas. I take it once on Mon/Wed/Fri., and I'm basically gas free. I keep trying to go off the stuff since I WOULD like to have a every now and then, (and drinking while taking Flagyl can make you sick) but I end up crawling back to it. The ability to have an occassional is just not worth the gas I have if I don't take my Flagyl! So, for those of you that thought I was just FROOTLOOPS for taking FISH MEDICINE, NAH-NAH to you! Anyway, it's still cheaper to get it with a prescription and let insurance pay for it. So maybe I WAS FROOTLOOPS all along! Peace out, yawl! LeaAnn

I always said I wanted our vet to do my hysterectomy ... It was much cheaper (surgery, labs, drugs) and I'd be jumping on the furniture the next day. There are lots of drugs prescribed for critters that are the same as for humans, and the price is substantially lower. Rip, rip, rip.

So, how's your fin and scales? Got a nice slime coat? What can you recommend for algae in the gills?! If I ate Fruit Loops, I'd need something for gas cause cold cereal rips me up!! Now, if we can only find the veteranarian equivalent of some of the more, uh, popular drugs, like monkey marijuana, horsey heroin, cat cocaine, snake speed...

Of course it is the same thing -- and sometimes I have to go to Walgreen's to get the pekes meds. All I can say is ouch. I don't know where you get your vet medications but most of the medications I have gotten my babies have been priced as high as human meds or higher and I do not have insurance to help with the cost. But the pekes come first! Red

Well, the savings comes in from not having to pay the vet fees in order to get the medicine. It helps me to know where to get Rx meds w/o an Rx. I mean how many times do I have to take a kitten to a vet with conjuntivitis to know that it needs amoxicillin?! I had a vet actually tell me once that he wouldn't treat anything I'd been treating myself in the future. Guess what vet I don't use anymore?! Anyway, you can get just about any antibiotic known to man at the Tractor Supply store or any store that sells cattle supplies. And to save even more, I order on-line for meds and vaccines. My favorite sites are: jefferspet.com (in Dothan, AL--I'll get the stuff at my door the day after I order) lambriarvet.com petoptions.com (a Canadian site for heartworm preventative w/o an Rx!--AWESOME!...although for DOGS I just use IVERMECTIN, a cattle wormer that is the exact same ingredient as in HeartGard, and of course available w/o an Rx.) It all makes a huge difference in whether you can afford to care for TWO dogs or TWENTY! LeaAnn

How very true. Just getting the flea stuff will put you in the poor house these days -- and I only have two small dogs 'er 'um babies. I looked at the jefferspot site and I have to say if I did not have insurance -- I think those prices for antibiotics would look awful tempting. Red

Your two small dogs can be treated for fleas for CHEAP. Go to the jefferspet.com site and order the Frontline (FREE SHIPPING!) for dogs (the biggest size, what is it, 80-140 lbs.). I think this is going to be about 3 ccs of fluid. Put like 1/2 cc a mo. on each pooch. This way one tube is going to last you 3 mo. for both dogs, rather than going through two tubes each month. (You can even order some 3 cc syringes from Jeffers if ya wanna measure the stuff precisely, but the tube of Frontline is gonna have some little lines on it...) Maybe you can pay for your trip to Omaha with all the money-saving pet tips I can give ya!! LeaAnn
