*smack* Step away from that scale! Evenings are sometimes bad for me, too. By then I've landed/collapsed/settled in and my mind wanders to food. We are still learning to drive our new bodies. Jeanie

Alison, I had a five pound gain when I got back from my trip and it really freaked me out but today four of the five pounds are gone so I know it was jus****er. My point is these things happen and sometimes there is no ryme or reason for them. Your four pounds will go again. I don't think you are eating too much at 1700 cal a day. Remember that you are only absorbing about half that or even less depending on how much fat you are getting. I am a little further out than you are but I am averaging about 2000 cal. a day with at least half of it from fat and at least 120 gms protien. I did notice a big jump in the amount I eat about a month ago. Before that I was averaging about 1500 a day. I believe it is much more important to look at the types of food you are eating rather than the amount. If your snacks are protien snacks then you are doing well. I do think there is merit in looking closely at patterns of eating. If evening snacking has always been an issue then I understand why you are concerned about it but I also think you are doing the right thing already by switching from sweet snacks to protein/fat snacks. Would it help to move dinner to a later hour? Maybe if you had dinner later you wouldn't be as hungry between dinner and bed time or maybe you need to have dinner and then later have a late supper. It might help to have a sitdown meal rather than a slow graze of snacks. Laura

Alison - I think the fact that it is near the lowest adult weight you've ever had is very significant. Our bodies remember those weights, and moving beyond it is to move into uncharted territory......and since the unknown equals death, it's digging its heels into the ground going "NOOoOoOoOoOOOoooo" as you try to skid past that weight.

I agree with BT and posted a simalar reply to Dawn, below! BUT I think I remember you are doing a lot of exersicing?? Well muscle weighs more than fat and that could be part of it, but the fat will burn more calories so it is great that you are gaining muscle!! Patty

Hey Alison- 4 pounds stinks. You are definitely getting to that point where you start bouncing around in weight. It follows the pattern of pretty much lose, lose, lose. After that pattern comes the bounce around a certain weight for a bit then up, then down, then up then all the sudden you drop to a new low. I cannot remember exactly when that pattern started for me, but it a bit tougher time. I always hate seeing it go up, but I console myself that I know it is going back down eventually. I do all the things you talk about with tracking it of course. I start making better choices. However, I ALWAYS eat at night. Sometimes I make a good choice- protein like pork rinds (try the salt and vinegar dipped in ranch dip-Yum) or I eat ice cream or another sweet. I am still way off the breads except occasional crackers. I can tolerate corn chips (Scoops) w/ salsa or actual potato chips rather than bread. I still remember Diana's discussion on how those carbs require so much water to digest them! Salt I have to have though. See so I have no good advice. I just wanted to commiserate. Once you get the plan down, it changes again. {{{{HUGS}}}} Kim
