Hi!  I had gastric bypass surgery in 1977.  The surgeon also took my spleen, gallbladder, and appendics.  Has anyone had experience with a surgery that old being switched to DS?

Welcome to the DS board! I know that Starry1st is a revision and there are several others here. You were one of the early ones.  Dianne from FL

I've heard of it being possible, but there are factors that must be tested. Only a very skilled DS surgeon can tell you for sure. Where are you located? By the way, welcome to the DS side. You will find life grand and the support from the DS board most helpful. Julia K DS/Alverdy/UofChicago 3/24/05 237/127 goal!

Welcome to our forum..... I was just revised November of 2006 from an adjustable gastric band that I had done way back in 1990 and had no complications,  but Starry here on the forum was revised from the RNY not too long ago and doing great. I'm sure if she sees this post she'll respond.

Hello QS!  Glad you asked. My RNY wasn't quite as long ago as yours but mine was in 94 and Dr. Husted told me that was actually to my advantage, since my staple line had broken down so long ago, it was like I was new, or I guess like a new DS'r.  The pounds are falling off me and I know I'm not being fantatical about staying away from sweets...(chocolate has always been my downfall).

Dr. Husted took my RNY completely down and reconstructed me to a DS.  I knew I had to have an endoscopy and an upper GI to take to him for the first consult, so I had my PCP order that done here in IL, then I went to Nashville to see him last Feb and he's so experienced with revisions, he set mine and my DH's mind at total ease immediately.  I had to wait a few months to have surgery but in my opinion, he was well worth it, so don't give up hope, there are some really great surgeons out there who can help you as much as you can be helped.  Of course, no surgeon knows what he's going to find when he opens you up but your best bet is to find one that really knows his way with revisions.

Welcome !! I had my first WLS in 1988. I'm hoping for a revision from RNY to DS in 2007.
