2 weeks post-op can I have arbys roast beef?
I would say that if the Dr. knows more about the band than BOTH manufacturers, then go for it.
BTW, I kind of like being Windows '95. :)

If you are talking about me in your post, I sure do not see how I am the one acting like a teenager. I am simply stated what MY qualified doctor and Nut. are telling me and their hundreds of other patients. I don't think I have had a "knows every damn thing" attitude. I simply posted what is in my information from my doctor. That does not make me a know it all or should it come off that way.
I came here for advice from the "veterans" that is why most newbies ARE here. But I did not come here to be called names for asking simple questions, and then to be judges or questioned on my choices. It is very simple to click on a profile and see the surgeon for yourself.
It may not be the recommended recovery plan by the manufacturer, but I trust my doctor and their plans. I did my research on doctors and choose this one for a reason. After all, it is a recommended plan, not set in stone. They can modify it to what they think works best. And I will follow theirs, NOT the manufacturer.
I am done. It would be nice if everyone else would get over it too.

For goodness sakes - why get so defensive? Your doctor is VERY young and has only had her medical license for 7 years and has only been board certified for 6 years. This is not someone with a "wealth of experience" in bariatric surgery. I honestly don't blame people for questioning her going against band manufacturer recommendations. I honestly would not push the band in terms of your eating habits. I was banded for a long time and recently had an eroded band removed. It might be a good idea to get a second opinion. It will be difficult to be successful with your band if you push the envelope so early out. If your doctor doesn't recommend roast beef, I probably wouldn't do it. Also, Arby's roast beef is loaded with sodium. I agree with the posters recommending caution. I also think that your surgeon's youth and experience would make me doubly cautious to be honest. In any case, you asked for people's opinions and they gave them to you in a spirit of concern. I think getting so upset at people when you posted a question asking for advice seems a little weird. Why bother posting if you only want to justify what you're going to do, regardless of whether your doctor recommends it? People are trying to help you so that you won't have one of the more common complications associated with lapband, a slip.
Just a cautionary note to the newly banded. Most surgeons don't really know much about nutrition and most are not banded. Nuts are not banded either and don't have to live within their guidelines.
I agree that everyone is different and all Drs. have different guidelines. But it is always prudent to proceed with caution and don't assume that because it is on your meal plan that you are going to be able to tolerate it. I don't agree with surgeons who keep their pts on liquids for a month either.
Listen up, the band is a bickle fitch. And, it can turn on you in a heartbeat through your own doing or through no fault of your own.
Don't pu**** ever with a band. You and you alone are responsible for what you eat and you wlll reap the benefits and the consequenses. This goes for all time, not just as a newbe. There is a long learning curve with the band. Maybe you should be a little more open to the experience of others who just want to help you succeed.

I am a newbie, or should I say a want to be soon. I can not believe how things got so out of control on this post. I understand what Leanne was saying and because her doctor, (also my soon to be doctor) is doing different than others should we be questioning the doctor and make sure that she is leading her patients the right way. I would hate to have anyone go threw any undo pain and suffering because the doctor is not doing the right follow up process. With that being said I am now wondering what to do when I have my surgery and to make sure I do everything that will keep my band working for me. I wonder if Dr. Curry would give his advice on this. Can someone ask him this question? I don't think I would get all the details right. Thanks for listening, Tracey
It is really very simple. If your Dr. has given you liberal instructions, you still proceed with caution. Some people have restriction from the very start and can not eat solids until about 6 weeks. Just because the instructions say you can eat solids after the first week, doesn't mean you will able to or should force yourself to follow instructions that you are not ready for.
