I'm going to have to give back my centery status soon if this doesn't stop. I've gained 2 pounds back for the last 3-4 days!!! So now i've only lost 98 pounds and i'm getting sad because i was excited to hit that milestone!

I don't know why i've gained 2 pounds, and i know that 2 pounds isn't going to be the death of me. The only thing i can think of is that i've joined the gym and have been working out regularly now, so maybe i've gained muscle........

Of course muscle AND regular weight fluctuation. How often are you weighing yourself???? Step away from the scale.

Oh yeah, remind me of this post later when I am in your position

If you've just had the DS 4/08, wow, you're doing fabulous! Give yourself a break. If you want, take a look at my profile - I updated my weight loss journey - there are a few ups and downs! The scale doesn't seem to just go down down down, so relax, take a deep breath, sip some water, and stop worrying - worrying inhibits weight loss, or at least that's what they used to tell me!

So STOP weighing yourself every day!!!

Kick the scale under your bed for another week.  Weigh at the same time of day on the same day of the week (or month if you can stand it) to get a TRUE idea of how much weight is lost.  Fluctuation is very normal in both directions.

Ok, ok, i admit i'm a scale junkie!!!!! I weigh myself 1st thing in the morning, every morning, after i go to the bathroom. Sometimes i step on it 3-4 times in those 10 minutes, it's unhealthy i know, and my husband has tried to hide the damn thing from me, but i can't go more then 2 days without weighing myself and letting what the scale tells me dictate how my day is going to be.

okay it is time to pull on your "big girl" panties and step away from the scale. The scale is a tool and one that should not be dictating your emotional state.

you can do it step away!
Gratitude is my attitude

I'm a scale addict too.  I tried the "once a week" thing but I felt like I was going through detox.

But, I jump around a lot and I know that.  I also lose in chunks a lot of times. I'll go up two, then lose 4.  As you can tell, it never goes up and stays up and I can't find it contingent on my diet (like gaining weight if I have a carb fest or losing weight if I'm low carb/high protein). It's just a steady weekly loss.  I average about 5-10lbs a month.  Monthly weigh ins are where you should focus...record on your surgiversary dates and check your MONTHLY not DAILY status.  You'll see the significant weight loss that way.

i do do this too, here is my tracking thing....

Month/Year Starting Weight Ending Weight Amount +/-
March 2008 350 325 -25
April 2008 325 301 -24
May 2008 301 288 -13
June 2008 288 274 -14
July 2008 274 261 -13
August 2008 261 251 -10

so i guess i can't complain too much! but still, i guess i'm at that stage where it starts to slow down, and it worries me! I up another pound today.

I know, stop it with the scale!!!

Heck, I know where you are coming from but the important thing is that once a month weight loss that you record in your WLS journal or Fitday. (You know...the anniversary of your surgery date??) I've been doing that since my surgery almost 2 and a half years ago.

You are doing great...now step away from the scale for a while.

With the DS: there is no stoma, so no stoma strictures; there are no limitations (other than volume) against drinking before, during or after meals; 80% of ingested fat is malabsorbed; 98.9% of type II diabetics are CURED of this devastating disease, with data showing stable cure over 10 years out; there is the best average weight loss and most durable (average 76% excess weight loss going out 10 years) of all of the bariatric surgeries.  That's why I had a DS!

I ignore the ups.  My weight always fluctuates.  I made a whole big post about reaching goal and wouldn't you know that I gained 8 pounds in the week or two after for no reason.  Still holding on to 5 of those pounds and they do drive me absolutely insane, but it's normal and you have to try really hard to ignore the water weight fluctuations.
