What about Tofu?
Hi Everyone!
I'm waiting on insurance approval and spending a lot of time worrying and being excited at the same time! I'm not worried about the actual revision surgery, but worried about getting my protein in for the rest of my life and staying away from sweets too.
I'm hoping that I wake up from the surgery and suddenly love meat but assuming that isn't going to happen..how does tofu sit with those of you that have tried it? I'm thinking that the soy probably isn't the best to tolerate but hoping I'm wrong.
Thanks for your input!

I used tofu in a lot of recipes pre-op, and still do post-op with no tolerence issues at all. Dips, smoothies (now adding protein powder), pumpkin pies, etc....anything that the tofu will help to make a nice creamy texture. I also use the meat substitutes when making chili (less greasy -- I'm not avoiding the fat, just the greasy guck) and some casseroles.

Current Weight = 168# / 26.4 bmi : fluctuates 5# either way @ 5'7" / more than 90% EWL
Normal BMI (24.9) = 159#: would have to compromise my muscle mass to get here without plastics, so this is not a goal.

Tofu is AMAZING if done right. I get the super firm, cut it into strips like french fries and fry them in a little peanut oil then dip in peanut sauce or peanut butter ;) YUMM!!! I also eat Boca and other meat subs and have never had an issue except early out. Maybe it was the preservatives, but couldn't handle anything except tofu and some Boca burgers.
Now I can eat just about anything and my favorite is Schniders au natural soy 'meat' balls. I make them for my meatatarian friends all the time and they love 'em. The package says to pan fry them or bake them but I have found if i boil them and then fry in a little oil and BBQ sauce no one can tell the difference. I have meat eaters ASKING me to make them lol!
Thank You Randy for the advice. I do make my own home made "meatless meatballs". I use smart ground instead of meat and simply follow my mothers traditional recipe for meatballs. They taste delicious. Being a good Italian lad, I couldn't give up meat entirely until I had a substitute for meatballs. LOL
You look fantastic by the way. I am scheduled for my revision in a few weeks. I can't wait.
Thanks again.
