Hibiclens

Nurse told me to bathe with this the night prior to surgery and then again the morning of.  I can understand why.  Apparently, Hibiclens is an OTC anticeptic used to help prevent infections.  Just wondering.... was anyone else instructed to do this?

In the OR, everything for surgery can be sterilized.... except skin. So all effort is made to disinfect the skin to decrease the risk of infection. So any thing you can do to help is in your best interest. Here's wishing you an infection fee procedure.

Yes, my doc has his patients use it.  It's not very pleasant smelling but I didn't get an infection so I'd gladly do it again.  The weirdest part was not wearing any deodorant - that bothered me!

I used hibiclens prior to my DS and I have also had to use it prior to all of my plastics.  And yes I had to do night before and morning of with all of my surgeries.

I used Hibiclens and Cetaphil to disinfect the night before and the day of surgery.  I also used it and used to dab it on my incision every now and then to avoid infection.  I never did get one, thank god.

I had to do the same, night before and morning of but I used Betadine. That was gross lathering up with this rusty orange solution but I survived and no infections here, so I think it's a great precaution to use.

All my CABG (coronary artery bypass grafting) patients get hibiclensed night before and morning of surgery. If I am not mistaken it continues its anti- microbial effectivness for about 8 hrs after washing. I have some to wash with just in case my Dr. doesn't prescribe it. Be careful not to get it into your eyes or any really eh hem.... sensitive parts. It will burn. Best of luck to you. Storm

That's a first for me!
Doesn't sound like a bad idea, though.  I'm all about preventing infections where I can.

It's anti-microbial.....

Read this passage and laughed  lol

Preoperative Skin Preparation
Apply HIBICLENS liberally to surgical site and swab for at least two minutes. Dry with a sterile towel. Repeat procedure for an additional two minutes and dry with a sterile towel.

Oh well.....I guess the home thing or hotel thing is not a perfect solution but I guess clean towels will just have to do!

Best of luck to you!

I am allergic to betadine and they have used hebicleanse in the OR as an alternative.  I think that speaks for itself.
