I have returned as I need this board for so many issues that arise for me, and

now i have all my booboos scabbed over, the feeding tube hole, the drain holes, and the incision so now need to know if I can go swimming yet?  I did call Michelle last week, but she never returned my call. I will call her back tomorrow if necessary. TIA.

Karen

Hi Karen!  I swam at 6 weeks post op in an indoor swimming pool (nearly winter time).  My surgeon told me that as long as I had no open spots nor drainage I was good to go.  Just take things slowly as you are still healing and shouldnt over do things.

Hmmm, I dunno. I would probably wait a little longer, til the incision is actually healed and not just scabbed over. Scabs tend to come off when you soak them in water, and that's not good on two counts. One; if the incision isn't quite healed you need the scab to stay on. Two; if it's a public pool then that's obviously a problem for other swimmers. Ick!

I know how you feel though. I couldn't wait to get back in the water!

Karen I am glad you asked that question.  I was in wishful thinking land about swimming.  I thought as soon as my drain was out I would be ready to go.  Really non reality thinking.   I am glad that idea was knocked out of the water before had though so I can just adjust now.  It is so hot here swimming is the only way to be outside unless it is 5 am.  Oh well, I will swim again.  lulu

Hey there, yeah I was going to jump in today, but will wait and call Michelle in the morning. Wish I had my surgery back in Feb or March so by now I could jump in. I am 6 1/2 weeks out.  We have it hot here in central California, was 111 last weekend and now about 95 to 99.  That's pool weather for me and I am missing it. I usually use weights and a water noodle and exercise in the water and walk in the water, jumping around and if it is really hot, I dive in while standing in the pool bottom and make sure I am good and wet all over.

I second Anna G.'s response.

Wait until your incisions are fully healed before going into either a chlorinated  pool or lake.

Even though most state laws require cleansing showers before entering the pool, you'd be surprised at how many people just throw on their suits and get in the pool, with bacteria-laden residue from who knows what and where!

I don't see why you couldn't go swimming as long as you take it easy for a while.

August is looking rather long right now.  The pool in my favorite way to enjoy summer but a small price to pay to be on my way and be on the other side of surgery.  I hope you get cleared tomorrow.  Happy splashing.  lulu
