How NOT to spend a precious day of vacation
Namely: ****ting and puking from pain, calling your surgeon who says get your ass to the ER, enduring a 60-plus mile drive to the ER semi-coherent from pain, terrifying your poor sister in the process. Then hang out in the ER for many hours, giving thanks for generous doses of Dilaudid and antinausea meds and being puzzled by the magic pain relief and worried that the next stop will be the OR with a surgeon who has never seen a DS.
The news was "good-ish," to quote my niece lol: Kidney stone. Looked on the CT scan like it was almost to my bladder (from radiologist's mouth to God's ear PLEASE) and is of a size that it will pass without surgical or other intervention. Sent me home with good pain meds, Reglan and instructions to drink many gallons of water.
I am happy to report that I got EXCELLENT and speedy care from docs who were super respectful of my knowledge about my guts and quick to say they'd never heard of this procedure and therefore appreciated my bringing in good written and verbal explanations of what had been done. The radiology report is hilarious--nicely couched in medicalese, translates to: WTF got done to this patient's intestine?!
They called Dr. Peters to consult and gave me copies of everything in digital format to email to him for immediate followup.
Today is a day of rest. We have a big party to go to on the weekend, so I gotta float that damned rock outta here.

I wondered where the hell you have been! Thought you were just out goofing around --- glad to see you were actually making yourself useful by educating those in MT on the DS!
Rest, my friend.

Oh, I've been doing plenty of goofing around. My BIL has a friend of many decades a couple towns away whom we've visited twice now, with another one coming for the weekend (I presume we'll go see them, since they'll be co-party animals in Butte), who is a hobby winemaker. His current passion is wine made from Flathead cherries and very special spring water, both of which involve a significant road trip for procuring. The most recent vintage is absolutely PHENOMENAL, and um, rather above the legal definition of wine for alcohol content lol. I have informed this gentleman and his wife that I am madly in love with both of them :-p, for which I was rewarded with a marvelous dinner of filet mignon. Now THAT is the way to live eh?

Oh my, Elizabeth, so sorry to hear.  I am relieved that it is "only" a kidney stone and not an obstruction, but feel badly that you've experienced this pain!  Rest up.

Glad it was "only" a kidney stone - my husband had one of those a couple of years ago, and he was literally doubled over in pain (I thought it was a gallbladder thing, because that was what caused me such pain).  Just take the "nice" drugs until the stone passes - not much else that you can do for it!
Get well soon,
Teresa K.
