You're right that organs have functions. The function of the gall bladder is to release additional bile when you absorb a large amount of fat at once. So think about it - after your DS, you'll only be absorbing about 20% of the fat you eat, so you don't NEED that extra bile because you'll never be absorbing so much fat at once that you'll need more than what your liver (?) already produces on its own.
Yes, the gall bladder has a function in a normal human body, but not so much in an anatomically alterred DS body. This is why so many DS surgeons automatically removed the gall bladder when they perform a DS, even if the organ is perfectly healthy (which yours already is not).

Well, here's my 2 cents worth....get that gb out now. I took Actigall for 6 months after my first surgery, and still developed more gall stones(huge) according to the surgeon. It's just not worth the risk of another surgery and all that pain that goes along with gb disease. I know because I endured it. I don't want you to have to.

My hubby hasn't had WLS, but he did have a bad gallbladder removed. He was in such pain from it he was almost always grabbing at that area and holding on for dear life. He thought he was dying or something before he finally went to a doc about it. When he finally made it to the surgeon, it was immediately taken out. He has three scars because it was done laproscopically. Would you want scarring from new holes if they couldn't got back through the older ones? Also it's been over a year since he had his gallbladder out and he was never put on any meds for it and he is doing just fine in that department today.
If I make it to having a DS done, they can have my gallbladder and appendix. I hate going under the knife and if there is any way to avoid having to do it again, I say let 'em have 'em while they're already in there.
I've never heard of anything to help with gallstones. My brother's urologist has had to go up the pipes and take out several kidney stones over time and told him to drink lemonade made from fresh lemons every day to help prevent them from reforming. But as I said, I've never heard of anything that would disolve a gallstone.
Good luck!
