uh-oh - I have sort of interchanged diet coke and Coke One with out knowing they use different sweeteners! That means maybe I COULD drink DC,Coke One!!!! Oh, I have to try this! Thanks for the revelation - like you, giving up DC would be like giving up a best friend that I see everyday!

No aspartame?

I'm not into diet coke, but I need my coffee with Equal!  Hmmm.. maybe it won't be an issue for me.  :crossing fingers:

there is also coke zero (MY fav!)  so if the other two cause problems you might try it (and sorry I dont know what sweetener is used in it...)  I HAD to add back my coke zero at about 6 months out as I couldn't do it any more!  Good luck!

I would be dead on the ground without Diet Coke LOL.  I know there are different versions of sweeteners out there in different sodas (I still manage to find Tab and buy as much of it as I can - love it!) and hopefully you can find one that doesn't bother you.

Good luck.

Everyone's a little different.  You can try diet coke with splenda and see if you get a better reaction if you really miss it.

For me, the culprit was narrowed down to the ingredient of aspartame. ALL the sugar substitutes (except Splenda) and sugar alcohols give me horrible digestive pain. Once, I recovered from the intolerance I had to drinking sodas, that took 16 months, it was then narrowed down to the caramel coating they use in the dark sodas. I still had slight issues to sugar alcohol, but caramel also gave me terrible stomach cramps. After 16 months post-op, I was able to drink diet orange soda, diet ginger ale, and any light color sodas. But, if it is dark colored, whether it is Diet Pepsi, Diet Coke, Diet Rite, Dr. Pepper, etc, it continued to give me an adverse effect and terrible stomach cramps. I had items that had caramel and it gave me the same reaction. I am now able to digest caramel with no problems, now.

Now, that I am almost 3 years post-op, I am finally able to sip, yeah I am limited to having a few sips and drink drink more than 4oz of dark colored sodas. Maybe, after I am 3 1/2 years out, I can drink my beloved Diet Pepsi, once again. One great thing I can do now is, I can drink any soda and do not have to let it go flat when I drink it with my meals. I could not drink any type of sodas, even flat for all that time and was happy that at 16 months that I could at least, drink diet orange soda and with carbonation. It's weird, but that is how it was for me and how long I have been taste testing drinking sodas.
