Karen, thank you so much!! I was hoping you might respond. That's good advice, about the sports docs. I guess it's always good to follow the money, and that's definitely where people have a vested interest in getting the best care. I'll check into that Pro Disc-L total disc replacement too.

Anna, I am so sorry that you and your husband are going through this. I truly feel your pain, as my mother is currently hospitalized for spinal stenosis and compression fractures so severe that she can't move or walk.

In a matter of three weeks, she went from being the most positive, optimistic person I know, to being completely overwhelmed by the pain. She told me she doesn't think she can live like this much longer.

Because of this, I've been doing a lot of research myself, and I have so far found this site to be informative: www.spine-health.com/.

They have a forums section too, but I have not looked extensively at it yet. Here are two pieces on selecting a spine surgeon, one from surgeon perspective, the other from patient perspective.

Best of luck. I will be keeping you both in my thoughts.

Oh Jenna, I am so sorry that your mother is going through such an ordeal. I hope she gets relief soon. Thanks for that link! I'll explore it today.

My personal miracle worker is Dr Jamel Taha who practices out of Kettering Medical Center in Dayton OH.  His practice is Advanced Neurosurgery and his office phone is 937-299-8242.  He is not well known, but his talent and abilities speak for themself.   This hospital is where Dr Maguire and Dr Teel started with their WLS practice before they moved to another local hospital in Dayton.
Words fail me to describe this gifted surgeon and how he transformed my life 5000%.  And the nursing staff in the hospital is totally schooled in the care needed for neurosurgery patients.  I received the best nursing care ever.
I was on enough pain meds that should have sent me to rehab.  I am totally pain free and rarely take a Tylenol for even a headache.

Hi,

My only suggestion would to be to look for a neurosurgeon and not an orthopedic surgeon.

Good luck!

This is a neurosurgeon in FL. He is the first (only) Dr I thought of while reading your post. I don't think he is world renowned or anything. I work in the hospital he does surgery in. I know several medical professionals personally that have used him. He has changed their lives. If I had any neurosurgical issues I would definately go to him. He has great patient outcomes and a stellar reputation. Please don't think I am getting any kickbacks or anything. I work at the same hospital he does, not with him personally. Anyway, I figure it would be worth a phone consult anyway. I really wish you and your hubby the best of luck. I am so sorry you are both experiencing this agony.

Thanks so much, Stormy!! I love the location too. He could recuperate in Perdido on the way home.

I'm sorry to hear about your dh.  I know chronic pain can really get you very down.

There is a doctor in FL that has been recommended to my dh from SEVERAL people here and I know several who have used him.  I can't remembe his name at the moment but I have left a msg. with a friend to call me back with his name.  I will get it to you as soon as I get it.

My dh has already had 2 back surgeries.  His back is in bad shape.  Last time he went to Dr. Ghavam in Huntsville (256) 327-7463.  He is located in The Spine Center (The Orthopaedic Center - TOC).  Their web site is www.visitTOC.com.  He was highly recommended from Dr. Aquadro's office and their office told us not to even mess with the doctors in our area.  That was a little late for us b/c dh had already used them and when he had his last surgery the doc said he saw another prob. but wouldn't mess with it cause it may not cause problems later.  Well it did and it should have been taken care of while he was already in there.  Even Dr. Aquadro said that.
From what I get from many people though, I would rather see the one in FL. I'll get you his name.

When I read the title of your post, somehow I had it in my mind that it was Sia posting ... and well, you have to admit that some of her posts walk a little on the wild side!  Anyway, I don't know a great back surgeon, but I do know a surgeon with a great back!    (ok, I censored myself!)

I don't mean to make light of your post though ~ just hoped a light moment might make you smile.
