Is the DS lifestyle good for those around you too?

Well no, ultimately he is a damn adult and he can eat as he likes. He is fully capable of shopping for and cooking food he should and/or wants to eat.

And my children don't eat like us because, well they are picky and young. They are kids (4 and 6), and rarely like what is cooked for dinner unless they're gowing through a growth spurt and we have to nail down the furniture lest they inhale it. Default "I don't like what you cooked for dinner" food around here is pb and j on whole wheat, applesauce and some kind of cracker thing be it goldfish or teddy grahams and they eat that A LOT to be quite honest.

Of course the logical answer to the oft hefted accusation that the DS lifestyle will ruin family members is "well everyone is different in the household and we cater to their diets." Recently, the issue is that I've seen arguements that basically prove people are in general not quite quick enough to grasp the simple logic of just that. As such, My goal with this thread is to simply show that even if everyone in your family was by some magical reasoning shackled to your decisions, that liberal application of bacon to one's diet is not going to send the entire household into a obesity death spiral, necessarily.

Wow!   I have always maintained that the only way I've ever been able to lose weight pre-op is lower carbs and higher protein.   He looks fantastic.

He's lost 90 pounds AND become a book-throwing monster? Ha ha. The bookshelf behind him looks like how ours used to when my kids were itty-bitty! They each loved to pull books out and see what happened!

Congrats, hubby!

Oh man, you hit the nail on the head. I just don't have the spirit in me anymore to put them up there right, because she's evil and she's FAST when it comes to getting those entire shelves empty before I come around the corner. So I sort of half heartedly chuck them up there until the next time she goes at it.

WOW!!  Props to your hubs!!  He looks great!

My bf was worried about gaining weight - so I told him that if he was really worried about it (I didn't think he needed to) that he needed to stop eating all the food that I didn't eat and left on my plate!!

I was impressed with the first two pics, but holy cow!!!  The third one says it all.
Save this and post it whenever those people ask such things.

Wow, congrats to you and your husband! I was pretty darn impressed by the first two pictures. I definitely wasn't expecting the third!

I'm not a DS-er, so forgive me that, but I think the claims that your diet will negatively affect family members are pretty ridiculous. My dad's a vegetarian and has been my whole life. It hasn't caused me to not eat meat. He also eats bleu cheese. I won't touch the stuff. Different strokes for different folks. Reducing the intake of simple carbs is healthy for anyone. My only major dieting successes pre-op were achieved by limiting simple carbs and eating lots of full-fat meat and cheeses. All the hooplah about dietary fat is pretty crazy, even for normal gutted folks. Fat is not evil! And it definitely is not evil for DSers!

I bet you both are really enjoying being more active with your children! They are lucky to have parents who are making such wonderful changes for their health.
