DS cholestrol question
Hi Lori,
Every DSer malabsorbs slightly differently, but all of us malabsorb a lot of fat! It's estimated that we tend to malabsorb approximately 80% of the fat that we eat.
So, for example, my breakfast this morning (sausage and bacon) had a whopping 40 grams of fat. However, I only absorbed about 8 grams of the fat. What's not absorbed can't affect your cholesterol or waistline.
Pretty awesome, no? It's still weird for me to eat fat and not worry about any negative health consequences.

You should have had your cholesterol numbers checked by now (6 month labs!!!!) and you'd see that they are likely just fine.
If you continue to have cholesterol problems post-ds, it is likely a genetic predisposition that causes your body to make more cholesterol than the average person and drug therapy may help.
Personally, my cholesterol is A-OK eating bacon, sausage, and eggs. I have low LDL and good HDL. Lots of smiles for that combo!

Lori,
As you know by your problems with oil slicks, that we don't absorb fat (or very much of it) and I'm surprised that GHP didn't explain that to you, as I recall that I was made aware of it during my orientation. If you don't absorb fat, you are also not absorbing cholesterol. This surgery greatly alters your blood lipd (fat) values. My cholesterol is 88.

My pre-op cholesterol was 199 (when I tried to eat all that fake, low-fat crapola) and my two-year cholesterol is 96 (when I eat yummy bacon, cheese, steak, etc).
Unless you have a genetic predisposition to high cholesterol, I think you will be fine.
