Heme Iron and Calcium
Both Tenders use the same form of iron. One is chewable (or not) and the other is in a capsule. Just depends on which you prefer.
If you swallow your pills, use the caps. Cheaper.

Since the Proferrin is so hard to come by, what do you think about this Heme Iron?

Looks like it has 6 mg of DHC / Heme Iron per cap, but it's pretty cheap @ 90 caps for $31.00 for 90 caps whi*****ludes shipping.
I would rather have the Proferrin, but I'm thinking this could do in a pinch. But I don't know if DHC / Heme Iron is the same thing or not.

*I* wouldn't use it, but then I'm happy with tender Iron. I use PF, but using a substitute is not what I'm thinking.
I wouldn't even use the Bifera, a quality product, because I don't want the poly.

DHC seems to be the brand, since they make other things.
It's because it's out of country. Proferrin is made from beef, actually. And we know Japan is notoriously low on beef, so where are they getting the raws? that's what I don't like.
Bifera is half heme, half poly. But since I know the mfr of the heme portion, I'd trust it. I just can't take poly or I'll never poop again. Forever. Or longer. Since you kinda pressed me on that point. lol

OK, now I understand what you're saying; thanks!
I just want to get my Ferritin up and the Tenders may be slowly doing it, but it's kinda hard to tell because I was taking every kind of Iron you can think of except Heme for the past 6 months. In doing that I moved my Ferritin from 16 to 32. I was taking 10 of the chewable tenders, 150 mg of Poly Iron, 2 Multigen, 2 Chelated Iron and 2 Ferrous Sulfate every day. Didn't bother me in the least, just made my poop a nice purty green color. So, for the next 6 months I was going to continue taking the Tenders, but increase the dose to 12 a day and add Proferrin, but I can't lay my paws on any Proferrin, so I'm looking for something to tide me over until the Proferrin is available. Since I don't seem to be the least bit touchy about the Iron I take, I ordered some of that Heme Iron from Japan, thinking it's better than nothing.
I'll email the seller of that Heme Iron on eBay and see if they can tell me where the Heme Iron comes from.

Good idea.
Or you can run up to Canada, cuz they'll get the Proferrin first.
We ran thru all the irons on the market in the 90's (no heme then) and most of them ground my stuff to a total halt and the numbers plunged. Both of us. And as much as he'd have liked having his stuff ground to a "slow" at least, that didn't happen for him. LOL
The only one that worked was Tenders, but that was after trying all the rx available at that time.

OK, I got an answer back about the Japanese Heme Iron; it's source is Pork blood.
Does it make any difference if it's source is pork or beef blood? I would think pork would be a little better for us because we're closer genetically to pigs than we are to cows, but I really don't know. What's your thinking about this?
