I had my surgery yesterday around 3 o clock since then until now i can’t swallow my own saliva i have to spit it out.Last night i had episode of hiccups and every time i do hiccup it felt like i was popping a stitch.
The doctor said it will get better. There are other VSGers in this hospital but no one is having this problem.The doctor also said it was spasm and he gave me anti acid it also came back-up I cannot keep down a drop of water ,it feels like something is stuck in my throat.OMG hiccups are back again and they are painful
Please give me some advice as you guys also have sleeve part of your DS

Swelling can create a lot of problems post-op. What sort of "anti acid" were you given? Was it a PPI or just something like tums?
Get protonix or a similar PPI in your IV so you won't have to swallow it. I felt incredible pressure in my chest in the first day or two post op. Getting on a protonix drip helped (but it will not be immediate relief).
If your surgery was yesterday, it is not unusual to not be able to swallow/prcocess things. If it persists, you may need a NG tube to keep the saliva at bay.
Thanks Chad it’s been 3 days and they have been giving me antispasmodic and anti acids through IV I can’t swallow my own saliva and have to vomit every 20 mins which is even making the contraction worst.
The doctor said part of my stomach where I had band it had scar tissue so he had to remove it and now that part is in more trauma and causing the muscles to contract firmly.
Even under fluoroscopy it was proven that liquids go half way and sit there .
I am in too much pain, but the doctor said it’s not in his control he can only keep on drugging me through IV until the spasm breaks & I am able to swallow.
I really like DS but at my weigh I am 5’10" and 242 right now I think sleeve was just enough.I even talked with dr Ungson for quite a while after sending him my M|EDhistory he said RNY is ur best bet . ireplied him back that i didnt want rny then hee said a sleeve and then 5 to 6 years down the road if you need a full ds i will do it with longer limbs
