And.....which DS surgeons deserve our business?
I'll be honest. Buchwald is a great, venerable, surgeon and a pioneer in metabolic medicine. No one should be scared to go to him. His patients do very well. He doesn't cherrypick and take only the easy cases either. You never hear about problems or deficiency postop. No infusions here.......
But his patients seem to have one hell of a time losing the weight and seem to settle in at still fat. UNLESS they put in a lot of effort to lose. This is no free ride DS. Somehow, he just does a kinder, gentler, less traumatic, DS.
Why is this? I have no idea. Just seems that way to me.

I love my surgeon, Dr. Paul Kemmeter, and I would entrust my life with him again, over and over, to have the DS. I was his twelfth DS - a considerable risk to take on my part, and one I did not take lightly. He has been "johnny-on-the-spot" with the couple of post-op problems that have occurred with me, and is available to his patients (despite what a recent post asserts) at any time. He is conscientious and ethical.
That being said, if I were to encounter a problem that I did not feel comfortable with him handling, or needed some revision work done, I'd be at Rabkin or Keshisian's door in a heartbeat. I am just so impressed with their work. Keshisian has PM'd me three or four times in regard to various posts I've made or responded to and I was just so darn flattered that he took the time, without any solicitation on my part, to do so.

Don't shoot me okay? We've had several folks come on here lately who listed him as their surgeon as revisions to "ERNY." Those folks were mega messed up, whether due to the surgery or their noncompliance or whatever.....Bottom line for here is they listed Dr. Kemmeter and the very WORST of all WLS procedures. I was very shocked to see his good name connected with that crap.
So, I'm offering Dr.K. this platform, via his happy RNY TO DS PATIENTS IF SUCH PEOPLE EXIST, or for him to post and comment himself, to talk about the mega complex RNY TO DS REVISION, IF * BIG IF * in fact he actually DOES such procedures.
In fact I just might start a new thread asking him this very question. After all, he pays big bucks to have his name on OH, He might as well speak up in plain English about his revisions.
Edited to correct a typo.

That's a big issue with me too, EN. I know he's had one show up lately. I think Foote's done more, and that's who did Lori W (the gal who had the odor problems). The recent ERNY who posted that no one would help her was admittedly non-compliant and full of **** about no one at GHP helping her, because he's right on top of problems. I know I did talk with him briefly about this last winter, and he mentioned that if the RNY stomach is functioning well, he doesn't want to mess with it. I am surmising it's because of the fragility of the RNY/duodenum thing in converting to a sleeve. That's all I remember about the conversation, as we were discussing other things along with it in a crowded room. That's why if I ever needed my sleeve trimmed,I'd see someone like Rabkin.

Lemme add (and don't shoot me!) that an ERNY surgeon doth not a criminal make. It just means that he doesn't do a full DS revision, and there are some pretty valid reasons, which have been discussed on this board before, for why a surgeon might not want to take that on. Not valid enough for me, mind you, I'd want the full monty, but it's not like he or other ERNY surgeons are committing medical malpractice, they're bascially doing a distal RNY. I too am anxious to hear from some satisfied ENRY patients of any surgeon (I know there have been a few that have posted here, MaryLuna comes to mind) but I'm not sure how many actually hang out on the DS boards. So far, I've only seen one Kemmeter ERNY posting here, the aforementioned gal who claimed that no one would help her, that the same day she posted all of a sudden had a "plan" in place. Foote is a fine surgeon....but he is known to be more reserved about doing the DS than Kemmeter because of nutritional issues and patient compliance (but I still think it's GHP's not being aggressive enough with supplementation) and I've heard that he really pushes for the VSG. Foote was actually the original DS surgeon at GHP, and I believed proctored under Alverdy. He then co-performed all of the DS's with Kemmeter for a while, and he was present at mine. At GHP, you have to see an internal medicine doc before you see the surgeon. There was one on staff (I think she's not there anymore) that was REALLY anti-DS and tried to scare everybody away from having it. Maybe, in some ways, that's a good thing, because I very strongly feel that the power of the DS is just not for everybody. Kemmeter told me last March that other surgeons are surprised when he states that he lets the patient decide on what surgery he/she has....and that he is always surprised when he hears that other surgeons "decide" for the patient.
