Sometimes DS's aren't the 'platinum standard'
Thanks to all *****sponded so kindly. I was just going out of my head about her, and needed to vent. As the "Aunt Nurse", I try to be rational and calm when talking health with her and her Mom, when I want to rant I come here! As of noon, she was going to try to manage this medically, and save the surgery as a last ditch effort, maybe in October. They were doing one more colonoscopy and Xray set, and then trying to create a medical treatment plan.
I just got off the phone with her, and she's waiting to see her surgeon one more time before he'll discharge her. I actually feel bad for him, because he seems to be attentive and well versed in the ways of DS'ers, but hasn't come across someone like her ever. He's baffled.
I'll post and update over the weekend. Thanks again for being my 'safe place' to obsess! Mary C

I read Lynn's profile and besides wishing her the best for recovery, I just wanted to agree that we should be able to discuss the not so good without being attacked. I think many posters agree, just a few tend to take on other's tragedy as their own personal cause/mechanism for stress release. It's important that the truth be known. I have been watching some videos and reading some not so flattering posts lately and of course it scares me but I am the only one who can make this decision for myself.
Swinging schnauzers for Lynn Bee.

Jennifer, Thanks. I don't want to scare newbies, you seem to have done your research and picked a surgeon with a great rep.... learn the vitamin and protein rituals..... and I will keep you in my thoughts in early December, that you have an easy time of it.... so many people do! I hope you have an quick and healthy recovery, and wind up being one of those posters that write "I LOVE my DS"! Thanks, Mary
I'm so sorry for her trouble. It does suck.....I've often had stuff wrong with me (not ds related but allergies, migraines, stuff that won't kill me but makes life miserable) and at times I feel like I have more than my share. It can be exhausting and frustrating. But I have found in my own life that these things have made me stronger...finding ways to deal with everything, learning experiences, learning patience and kindness to others who face obstacles. It's increased my faith too.
Not to say there is a silver lining exactly, but just to say that sometimes good people get the short end of the stick and they seem to gain something from it.
Don't know if I am expressing myself well, hope you know what I am trying to say.
God bless you and Lynn. xo

Just thinking, HOW CAN a boss let someone go because they are having major surgery? I believe there is a federal law that prohibits that. If this boss has ever allowed anyone time off for illness, then he has to let this person come back too. Unless I am mistaken that law passed in the late 70's or early 80's. To let this person go, and allow others to return to work, is considered a violation of Labor Law.
Just my thoughts on the matter. If it goes down that way, I would suggest contacting the Labor Board.
I was in an accident and immobile for 12 weeks when I had started working as a nurse. B/C I had been there less than a year, they said FMLA did not apply and they could replace me. I went back part time eventually but they had no obligation to me.
Lapband 4/08 removed 3/10.....Sleeve scheduled for 12/28/2010!!!!!!
Mary, I have no words of wisdom, but wanted to express my concern and sympathy for Lynn Bee (and you). Sometimes things go wrong even when you make the best possible decisions and do everything right. It sounds like this is one of those times.
Thank you for letting us know how she's doing, and please let her know that we are concerned, and thinking of her, and hoping along with her for a resolution to her problems.
