At 3 months the body would not be vit/min deficient (if you were not pre-op of course) the body has a reserve. the body does not have a protein reserve so as a DSer it is very important to keep your protein intake up.
Not at 3 months post op, but long term, by 12 months out 30-50% will develop vit A & D deficiencies. I do hope that you are taking ca citrate and your 1000 mg is really low, you would at 12 months, your body would compensate by pulling your calcium out of your bones-hence your PTH would increase, increase that to at least 1800mg/day. I would strongly caution you on the combo ADEK. because you have a bpd/ds your body can not longer absorb fat soluable vitamins (ADEK) on a normal level and only absorbs an average of 20% of those vitamins that are ingested. I am not sure what ADEK's you are taking but if is aquaADEKs you should immediately discontinue those, as these are formulated for CF patients and the combination in time coudl be detrimental to your health if you are no****ching your blood work often. If you are taking 3-BA ADEK chewables, in time you will most likely develop a vit D deficiency. Those are the 2 most imp. fat sol. vit for a DSer.
Your 3 month labs for vit/min are really unimportant (unless you were deficient pre-op and they would get progressively worse with your vit/min intake), your 3 month labs for protein malnutritionis is what is important for the reason listed above. It is great you are eating your protein (shakes bars too) I am not advocating one particular place to get your vitamins, as there are many places to get dry, vit a, d, and e, but taking ADEK for a DSer for any lenght of time is asking for vit deficiencies in the 12 month blood work and beyond and future of your health, at 3 months you are working on your reserve going forward you will be depleting your reserves.

My surgeon's recommendations has moved from this to Vita lady's plan since I was new-op. He's a wise man.
Once you get lows with our makeup, it's hard as hell to get them back up. So I'd take advantage of this time to keep them up and get hooked up with some big girl vites.

I tried that "doctor's recommendation" stuff. Half my labs are in the tank. My ankles and legs are swollen. I'm jammin' down 180+ grams of protein a day and praying to God that everything falls into normal over time.
Do what you can NOW to stay in a good, healthy place. I get it about budgets and all, but this is your health and your life. It's priceless.

Why are you letting your husband dictate your health decisions? I get the finances part, but it's a bit concerning that he isn't on board with you 100%. Ask him if you had diabetes and needed insulin, would he make you wait until you were in the hospital with DKA before "allowing" you to have it?
Trust me, being malnourished is not fun. Vitalady's schedule is so worth it. You're letting your husband dictate your own health here and that's dangerous. If you continue to take the bare minimums, you could possibly end up in the hospital with severe deficiencies and feeling worse than you were pre-op and having to pay more money than Vitalady's schedule in hospital fees etc.
Don't let him be the decision maker on this. Tell him you wouldn't dictate his health choices and that vitamins are not something to "wait and see" on. Some of the deficiencies can cause permanent damage.
I hope ya'll can work something out.

Hi,
At three months your body is probably still using reserves of what you had from before surgery to keep your blood levels good. The vitalady program is expensive, but is excellent for those having issues with supplementation. Here is the thing, NOT EVERYONE has supplementation issues, you may be one of those not needing such an extensive program. Get your pre-op blood results and track them on a spreadsheet, look to see what the trends are before you make changes.
As I mentioned, there is NO one size fits all program for DS'ers. I take far less D then other and my levels are very good. But i can maintain good protein levels on food protein alone, i need those shakes everyday. IMHO there are some DS'ers on Vitalady's program that have some very expensive pee as there body is dumping alot of extra vitamins and minerals that they are putting in and don't need.
ON the other hand your present program is just not enough, so why don't you up it some? You have done lots of research i am sure, you know some basics about what your body needs.
My suggestion? At least double your calcium, take some extra D (even if you are taking an extra 5000 iu a day of normie D tablets), take some vegetarian A, double your multi-vitamin. I would be very careful with the iron as it can be toxic and you really should follow your lab results and doctors advice before increasing your iron.
I am going to be honest, I think that as Ds'ers we do the newbies a disservice but promoting certain vitamin schedules the minute they are out the gate. Not everyone needs aggressive supplementation. Everyone needs proper supplementation which is going to be different for each individual. Everyone requires regular labs to help them figure out what supplementation is best for them.
I hope that the comments of all the contributors make this decision easier.

All I take is 1 Centrum, 1,000 od calcium, 65 of iron, 1,000 vit c, High Pot B Complex, and a combined ADEK each day.
What's up?
My protein was also normal, and I srink no shakes and eat no bars.
I was hoping that these results would be enough to convince my husband to pay for Vitaladys regimne.
