Bacon Grease
I was just reading DianaR post about drinking her bacon grease and someone suggested putting it in a big ol butter bowl. I remember growing up my mother always had a metal canister that sat on the stove that read BACON GREASE. Does anyone remember these years ago? Just seeing this canister makes me feel warm. Any ideal where these can be bought, outside of a antique store. Karen
I pack rack a lot and have not ran across one yet. I was wondering if your sister keeps hers in the refrigerator or on the stove? I think some people do it different.
I think this should be a standard in every DSers goodies bag, along with a see through butter dish. I have 3 glass butter dishes going at all times. I like my butter soft, and always want to be able to see how low I am getting.

I grew up with these on the stovetop, it had a strainer inside it as well. You can get them easy enough at thrift stores or ebay. I just use an old coffee cup on my stove as I do use bacon drippings for things like searing my shrimp or seasoning beans. My Grandmama used a coffee tin to keep hers in.
I collect cookbooks and one old one from WW2 about making use of their rations. It has a lot of suggestions for using your bacon drippings. It's so cool, it talks about using the grease or taking it to the store for the war use.
This one is cool

They make crocks in the south that have strainers built in. Those are the ones that remind me of my grandmother, I love it! I chipped the one I have had for years and bought a new one but it is not glazed so the grease seeps through the jar.
I am going to try to get a new one when I go back to Texas in January.
