Hey guys! I remember the Dr. telling me I should choose complex carbs over simple carbs, but how many carbs should I shoot for a day and still lose weight?

It varies by the individual. Some people try to stay under 100, 50 or in some cases even 20 grams of carbs per day. I think the smaller numbers are draconian and wouldn't want to try to live that way, but if you can do it, more power to you.

I shoot to stay between 50 and 100.  If I go lower, I am horribly constipated.  I am still constipated even at that #, but it's more painful if I go too low.  Plus, going lower than 50, I seem to have very little energy.   So, 50-100 seems to be my magic place.  You will have to see how you lose.  Some people are more carb sensitive.  Only you will be able to gage this;  by the scale, how you feel, your bathroom habits, gas...

This WIDELY varies by individual. I never lost all my excess weight after my surgery (I'm 2 years out now), and to continue losing weight right now, I have to SEVERELY restrict my carb intake. I aim for about 10% or less of my calories per day to come from carbs (and that's total carbs, not net carbs). At the amounts I can eat now, I think that usually puts me around 30g total carbs per day.

I don't think I ever necessarily counted how many carbs I took in, in a day.  I usually looked at it in a Protein/Carb ratio, at   3-4 grams protein / 1 gram carbs.

I only did this for actual food consumed, I did not include shakes into it.  I usually would shoot for 150 - 200 grams of protein and that would typically put me at 50-75 carbs per day.

I roughly followed this (but wasn't anal about it - if it was a special occasion or holiday, etc. I splurged for sure -  First 3 months: 30 carbs or less (that's not hard to do because you can't fit much in but protein anyway)    Three months to eight months:  50 or less.  Eight months (when I hit a normal BMI) 100 carbs.    I found at that point it was hard to get that many carbs in and not compromise my protein intake.   When I continued to lose on 100 carbs, I threw carbs out the window and ate what I wanted.    Now, I try to eat low carb during the week (which has been really rough this week because of all of the DAMN Girl Scout cookies coming my way) and then relax on weekends.
