I am 47 and my hot flashes are totally out of control.  I am a light sleeper anyway, and have a hard time falling asleep.  Add in a hot flash or two every hour and I'm getting NO SLEEP.  I don't want hormones...thoughts?

Thanks, Christy

What about black cohash or valerian root ? Although I gave up and Ambien when REALLY needed. Depends on how messed up your sleep really is.

I am 43 and have taken Ambien for the last 5 years.... I had a hysterectomy  years ago and the flashes are horrible but I am like you i sleep very light when i do not take it and most of the time never go to sleep... PCP said he would not put me through not having it....Good luck and I am like you I do not take HRT.... I tried it for about 2 weeks and drove everyone crazy!!!

Ok, I was referring to amberen, which supposedly stops hot flashes, not ambien, which helps you sleep.  Wondering if anyone has experience with amberen to HALT hot flashes?

Thanks!

Christy,

Have you tried wild yam cream? It helped me. Might be worth a try.  Takes about a week to fully work.

Amberen is not a pharmaceutical product. It has no drugs, hormones, soy, cohosh, stimulants or herbs in it at all. It is an all natural supplement.  It is safe to use with medications or supplements and has no interferences, side effects or cancer risks. The whole premise of a natural supplement is that it only contains the natural ingredients previously approved by FDA for human consumption and listed in FDA’s GRAS list (Generally Recognized As Safe).

Via ammonium succinate, Amberen claims to restore the connections among the hypothalamus, pituitary, and ovaries so the body is able to produce its own hormones naturally (the way it did prior to going through the change).

I know several cancer survivors who take it because they cannot take hormones anymore.  The results vary significantly.  There are no good clinical studies confirming its efficacy yet.  It's a little on the expensive side, but can't hurt to try.
