Four Year Surgiversary (with pic)
on 6/16/11 9:23 am
I was 50 yo when I started my plastics.
Right after my surgery I volunteered to keep the OH DS forum surgery calendars. I could cheer people on in this community, and that kept me coming back, reading posts, sharing and learning. There are so many tips for success and you've probably read a lot of them in posts on this forum and over on dsfacts.com. One thing I still do is on a daily basis - before my last snack of the day - I get online and track my food intake. If I've hit my protein goal for the day and my carbs are within reason, then I can have whatever I am craving - cookies, ice cream, bacon, etc. If I'm short of my protein goal, then that last snack must be a protein shake (and I'm not crazy about those). Not only does that help me get all my protein in, but it makes me accountable during the day to make better choices so I can have that cheesecake or whatever that night. Note: I'm from the school of thought that says there is no such thing as a good food or a bad food - there are only good choices and bad choices. And guess what? If I make a bad choice and eat something that is not so good for me, then I have an opportunity to make a better choice at the next meal. No need to beat myself up for what I eat like I did prior to my DS.
Good luck to you next week with your DS, Ann!
Cindy
Yes I have read the boards backwards and forwards. I also read a study that compared the weight loss of those that didn't track food to those that tracked food (or did a weekly weigh in I think). Anywho, the result is a 10% difference in weight loss for those who tracked their food. I guess being engaged is the name of the game.
