Good morning! For breakfast i drink a permafrost premier Protein shake. I drink a lot of coffee and add sugar free creamer. for lunch i eat chicken breast or ham or turkey slices with cheese as a roll up. i snack on pork rinds, almonds, cheese sticks, cottage cheese... for dinner i eat chicken, turkey, pork and have a salad or broccoli or some other vegetable. i end the night with a Quest protein bar to cure my snacking and sweet tooth. That's my normal day. my biggest "cheat" is overeating and if i go to the grocery store, i will sneak a cookie to eat. sometimes i do eat oatmeal as a snack if i'm hungry. I haven't gained weight, but i feel like my body has shifted and my clothes are tighter? Thanks for any suggestions!
I just joined. i used to be a member of different facebook support groups but quit FB. I had DS just over a year ago and lost from 309 to 215. My weight has plateaued and I'm struggling now with wanting to eat and graze. I started turning to pork rinds as a good low/no carb option for snacking but before i know it, I've eaten the whole bag. I am slipping into bad habits again and sneaking sweets when I think I won't be discovered and judged. While my weight has not gone up, I notice that my midsection and around my face seems fuller. i feel like I'm regaining fat, and I guess the higher fat diet i've been eating contributes to that. I don't really know what I need to do at this point. I guess if this were an AA meeting, I would say Hi, I'm Bob and I am off my eating wagon and can't get back on.". :( i don't want to lose complete control and gain back all the weight i lost. more about me- 200 cm CC, normally less than 40 carbs a day, plenty of protein, and i take my vitamins religiously.
hi bob, welcome. What's a days menu look like for you?
We malabsorption the fat we eat so it isn't fat that is causing the problems. More likely it is carbs slipping in, which we absorb at 100%. Do you drink beef, wine or other high calorie drinks? They can cause weight gain too.
Are there any issues with taking prescription medications after Duodenal Switch?
it really depends on the medication. I have only had trouble absorbing my thyroid supplement.
Dosed according to my lab work, I have to take about three times as much than what my weight would indicate I need.
I don't take many other RX drugs but I absorb the others ok.

If you have a specific question for me, PM me or I will not see it, as I don't check responses on the forums and don't have anything forwarded to my email.
I lost about this much my first month and then my body did a reshape and I stalled a little too. Even gaining a little after a reshape isn't that unusual. I remember catching a glance at my shadow and freaking out. I couldn't really see the weight loss on my body, but my shadow looked tiny all of a sudden. :-) Over time, stalls and body reshapes seemed linked and I stopped worrying about them.
However, every time I let my carbs drop below 50 I would stall. And I lost the most weight keeping my carbs around 90. Some doctors say that on less that 100 carbs, we can not process the proteins we need, but I don't think that matches what we see post DS on the boards.
There are no hard and fast rules, I think. You will have to really listen to what your body is trying to tell you it needs, only right now it is confused as hell, so it will take a while to sort out. Just don't be afraid to forge your own path. Fruits worked for me right away, especially watermelon. Some people still avoid too much fruit 5 years later.

So before my DS 6 years ago, I worried over diet and exercise, because they were my tickets to health. Now, those are automatic and I worry over my vitamins because they are my ticket to health.
I've never had a deficiency, although I'm six months late on my 6 year bloodwork, so knock on wood. When I say something like I'm worried about my magnesium levels, it isn't because they are bad, but because either I think they should be higher or because they are trending down all of a sudden and I should figure out why. Maybe I changed forms? Brands? IDK, there is always about a week's worth of studying and thinking after getting the blood tests back.
And right now, I'm stressing over hair vitamins. Honestly, I've been using a hot tub every day and almost never brushing my hair (COVID) I think that is what is really hurting my hair, but I'm hoping to fix the issue with Biotin, Rosehip C's, more oils. I'm hoping it isn't protein. See -- that's the cycle you get into... You learn how to use supplements to improve things and then you start really dinking around with them and it's all you talk about.
But it really isn't too different from "Should I go on Atkins or South Beach? Or get a DS??"
Good luck!

I has septic for my first 13 years as a DSer and had no problem. I did put in that additive, Rid-X, every month. When I bought the house they told me they had done it monthly so I continued. If I remember correctly we had ours pumped out 3 times in 13 years.
