Early in my DS journey, I was prescribed Viokase, then switched to Creon when Viokase became unavailable in the United States.
I really prefer Viokase because it a compressed caplet, not a time-release capsule like Creon.
It just works better for me, because it dissolves more completely.
Anyone?
My Experience is almost identical.
Sleeve was done in feb 2013 at the time I was 400lbs - went down to 245. 5 years later I was at 299 - had the DS in August of 2018 - Goal weight was 200 and current weight is now 190 - but I cannot stop losing no matter how hard I try.
1- with the DS, your bowel movement changes a lot - I didn't think it was a big deal before the surgery, but it is life-altering for me. EXACTLY how I feel
2- I need to consider what type of food to eat before I go out and I need to go out, would I be comfortable using the washroom if I have to - the odour is awful and the frequency could be a lot. I CAN do NOTHING with DAIRY. I soooo love cheese and milk products. but the instant I swallow anything dairy I Bloat to painful proportions and then the hours of flatulence is unreal. It is almost as if it causes my intestine to become inflamed and swell near shut, because the passing of the gas is painful and needs forced out to relieve the pressure on my stomach.
So yeah - no ice-cream, cheese of any sort, or milk products.
Taking of Vitamins is easy peasy and nothing to it. It becomes a daily routine.
I do find that now 2 years out the emergency bathroom runs are not as bad. but I still wont go out in public without know where the nearest bathroom is and how long it will take me to get there. Some events I simply avoid.
It's a hard decision for sure, but It cured me of type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, fatty liver disease... So no icecream and cheese but a prolonged life..
I'm not sure. I'm still in the research phase. But when I find out, I'll post it.
Never heard of him. How many has he done? Standard DS or SIPS?
I'm looking for anyone who has had the DS performed by Dr. John Primomo in Houston, TX. I am considering him for my procedure, but would love to hear about others' experiences. I am on track for a surgery date for August 2020.
I would cut out the sweets with your tea and cut out popcorn completely. My doctor had us cut out all sugar and all carbs that are the bread or starchy type....no popcorn, no potatoes, no bread or cereal or pasta! I use stevia in my coffee, and read all labels, all products must be under 5 grams of sugars. Try that and I bet you will see a difference! Plus popcorn has a lot of salt which can make you retain water! Also make sure you are drinking lots of water, no sodas at all!! Even diet sodas are off limits!
Two schools of thought. First it's a very complicated surgery usually performed on someone morbidly obese (or larger), which brings another whole set of potential complications. High risk.
Second, unfortunately many DS surgeons never provided the follow up or even guidance that is absolutely required with the DS. Lots of people having the DS but not necessarily learning what they needed to change in their lives to live with this surgery. My surgeon is a gifted surgeon but that's what he is, a surgeon, a cutter. I was very lucky to have had a great support system from other patients (there were about 10 of us all local), which helped keep me on track. We're still friends almost 20 years later.
In my opinion, yes, the DS is the absolute gold standard BUT the DS requires a massive commitment - for life. Vitamins are not an option. Protein is not an option. Labs are not an option. Period. When I was presented with all the surgery options and the research, there was no question for me - it had to be the DS. I still have dealt with iron deficiency anemia and osteoporosis. Doesn't matter for me - well forth it.
Do your research, ask alot of questions, and select the surgery that's right for you.

I chose him because he was the best for me. I would have gone with Dr. K too had he been closer.
it has been seven years and I am able to maintain my weight and eat what I want. It was the best thing I ever did.
Two years ago I had a 30 pound regain. I have slowly lost 20 and am working on the last 10. I love Weigh****chers because I can eat any foods I want and just have to track the points. I am actually perfectly fine at my current weight, but still want to get back to my goal weight.

Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
Question.. you are doing WW now? Are you at goal weight and doing WW to maintain or using WW to lose because you have regain? Thanks.. Pam
