Topic: RE: Acid Reflux after SADI, SIPS, Loop-DS

I didn't have it before and I don't have it now, almost 7 years out.

It's strange because I've seen posts both ways (not many of either). Some people got the DS to try and help their GERD and some people were looking at some additional surgery because they developed GERD. I always wondered, for those that didn't have it pre-op, if it was some difference in the surgeons but there was never a cluster to any single Doc.

I had acid reflux prior to Sadi DS in 2014. I used to take meds twice a day. Initially I stopped taking Omeprozol for about 6 months after surgery. Eventually I starting taking it again but now only 1 pill per day.

In short I still have acid reflux but take less meds for it.

I'm wondering if anyone has had GERD/Acid reflux after the (Single Anastomosis) DS surgery long-term or short term. Thank you!! I just can't find any information online.

Are you able to work with a nutritionist to see if there are any trends that they may see that maybe can be changed?

I am glad that worked so well for you. I don't know what they used for my last infusion. It was in June 2018 and my ferritin last month was 145.

So I just had my annual labs done. I've always battled anemia and have been getting infusions on and off for at least 14 years.

It always seems that whatever infusion drugs I was given only lasted a year (or less). Last go-around we tried a new drug called Injectafer (I had previous tried Venofer and Ferrlecit within limited success). Well it has been a spectacular success. I had two infusions (one week apart) almost 3 years ago and my latest ferritin results were still well over 100 (145 to be precise). Granted it has been decreasing (the original ferritin was over 350 right after the infusion). Last year it was still in the 200's.

I hope everyone had a happy new year!

Topic: RE: Medically necessary comorbidities

My PCP did. About the pre-authorized form, I'm not sure what that is. My Mom is a PA, and I did my six months supervised diet through her. It took me about two weeks from submitting to the insurance, until I got approved; six months from start to finish. I'm not sure if I did need the six months cuz I'm still a minor, ( I'm turning 18 in 1 month)?

no problem! feel free to ask anything!

PS: Doing this surgery was the best decision I ever made. The beginning is hard, but it all pays off. I'm less then 6 months out, have already lost 72lbs, and gotten control of my life.

I had already called Medicare. I have the United healthcare dual complete plan and discussed it with them. When I asked them if it depends on BMI. I was told no that they WILL NOT cover Bariatric Surgery unless you have a BMI of 35 and one or more comorbidities, and was told that was specific to my own personal plan benefits. Because I thought the same thing, maybe I will be blessed and they won't need any comorbidities to approve it but from what they told me they do.

I peeked at your profile, and, given your bmi, I doubt Medicare will require any comorbidities to qualify for the DS. But of course I would make sure your surgeon documents your hypertension and need for medications, just in case.

Also sending you a pm, so look out for it.
