I take my angel duty each week very seriously, but sometimes I end up spending extra time with certain patients who happen to cross my path in a special way and until it happens, one can't understand that I get more out of the experience than the patient!!! At least, that's how it feels to me. It's an honor to be able to give back!
Good for you, Kristen, glad you enjoyed the experience and perhaps you'll get to do that again sometime soon!
Being there for others - is very rewarding and a reminder of my day recovering and wishing I had someone visit me. I did it for a little over a year and would continue but increasing gas prices and other changes and duties deterred me from continuing..but I will do it for special cases though I'd love to be involved in the recovery or OR process of it just as much. Either way - is VERY rewarding indeed.
Kristen I can't even imagine how this person felt having you there for her all during her admittance and then in recovery too. I can't believe she was totally alone. You THINK she would have been ok and yes, to a degree.. she probably would have but you have no idea what it must have meant to her to have such a caring person there for her. You did some very special Angel duty there girlfriend. And yes... I just KNOW she had to appreciate what you did. I don't KNOW you but I am proud to know you here and hope we do meet some day. Big cyber hug until I get to give you one in person.
