I just had my pre-op class and they said that you HAD to take your CPAP machine. The hospital took a list of my meds and said to take my morning meds before coming to the hospital and they would give me the others as I needed them. Are you having your surgery at Kings Daughters or OLBH? I don't remember all the things that people have said to bring but what I do remember is chapstick and a pillow to hold on your stomach on the trip home. Just keep watching this and the main message board and you will see some other things I am sure.

Jessica, if you are not sure and don't have another visit before surgery...call the office and ask about the meds..most want you to stop taking many of them well before surgery, so you need to know that ahead of time, I was attending surgery when a lady was turned away because she didn't remember to stop taking a particular med. several days ahead. it was listed in her packet and went over at the office, but she didn't remember to do it.. she was in her gown, IV ready when the doc walked in and said.."we can't do surgery because you are taking" (whatever med)...she was sent home and rescheduled at a later date.. don't wait!!, call and find out.....check your paper work from the center there should be a list of things you will need to take with you.. good luck!!

One more thing Jessica..every center and surgeon is different and so are many of the requirements..you need to go directly to them for this information...

Call your Dr. to make sure what meds you need to take. In my case they only wanted you to take any blood pressure or heart meds b4 your surgery. Take lip balm, a book, houseshoes or socks, & if your hair is long, something to pull it back with. The 1st day you're SO thirsty & I only got ice chips. They'll have you up & walking ASAP & the more you walk the better off you are. I tried to walk & do my breathing devices once every hour I was awake. Best of luck to you!

Hey Jessica, I should be able to help you with this one I would take some house shoes, chapstick, maybe something to read. I wish I had brought a cd player cause it did get kinda boring the 2nd day for me. Bring something comfortable to wear, I wore the same clothes home that I had on the morning of the surgery. Dr Nease didn't have me bring any of my meds with me, he'll definately go over that on your last appointment before the surgery. They told me to bring my Bipap machine but leave it in the car, I didn't even use it cause I was wearing oxygen anyway, I didn't sleep a whole lot though. They will have you up to walk about 4-5 hours after your brought to your room. You'll have a pain pump though and it will help out a whole lot, so it's not really that bad. If you have any other questions let me know. You'll like it there at cabell. They treat you really well. Take care!
