I was going to post this on the dog board but I can't find it. We got 2 puppies back in May, they're almost 6 months old. We've got an appt to get them spayed at the end of Sept. They're outside dogs. We have a huge fenced in back yard. Our problem is they're digging. Along the fence, everywhere. They're catching moles, I'm not complaining about that, my DH is complaining because of the digging along the fence. They're almost out. I know once they get spayed they should calm down some, but is there anything we can do to keep them from digging so much? Can u trim their toe nails for that? Any suggestions appreciated... Thanks Ange

Angie, I don't know how to get them not to dig. We have moles too and I have a basset and she goes nuts over them. I had a Dauchsaund too that went crazy digging for them. I know it's a pain but I'd suggest running a strand of electric wire around the bottom of the fence. You can get chargers that aren't that expensive. You probably wouldn;t need a very powerful one. At least this would keep them in. I have holes all over my 5 1/2 acres. The only other thing I can think off is having your yard treated to get rid the food source for the moles. You probably have grubs... moles love them. If you get rid of the food source maybe the moles will leave. Good luck. KathyW

We have one who is a compulsive digger (her brother is too lazy, thank goodness) so we finally ended up running an electric "fence" about 6 inches above the ground. The dogs learned a healthy respect for the wire so she was unable to dig under the fence but SHE STILL DIGS inside the yard. It makes walking through the yard a real pain (in the ankles). We started filling the holes with gravels and covering with a thin layer of dirt hoping it will discourage her when she hits the rocks. Good luck, and if you find an answer to the problem, could you share it with us? Thanks!

Darn it! I meant to reply to Angela but I was reading and agreeing with the one about the electric fence. Now I'm replying to myself. I need to go back to bed.

Angela, I don't think there is anything you can do about the dogs. But, you could try getting rid of the moles. That would probably be easier..... ha ha Dogs do like to dig!! I guess I would suggest calling someone to come and get rid of the moles, if that is possible. I'm sorry you are having so much trouble. I've heard alot of people, lately, talking about mole problems. Good Luck!! Sharee
