iron transfusion anyone had one
I have never heard of an iron transfusion. That is interesting to know.
Losing 60 lbs in 3 months is great!! Maybe you need to slow down a bit... ha ha I know what you're saying to that.... ha ha
Do you have a bleeding ulcer? Do your vitamins have iron included? What happens after your transfusion? Do you have to double up on iron with pills or something, to keep it regulated? Are you normally anemic? Sorry for all of the questions, but I'm just preparing myself for when I have surgery. I want to know EVERYTHING that could happen and what to do about it if it does.
Have you had a date with a vampire lately? LOL
Hope you are doing well soon! I bet you are running low on energy too, huh?

Yea, that smoking thing will get ya, one way or the other. I'm just glad I have never picked up that habit. Neither my husband nor I smoke. Neither do either of my kids. But, my mom does and my dad did. So, I know it's a hard thing to let go.
I'm afraid of being iron deficient, because I don't eat beef, and very little red meat. I'm afraid I won't get enough iron in either. Keep me posted.
My surgery was February 24, 2006, but got cancelled on February 23, the day before -- due to Medicare's new guidelines about being approved as a Center of Excellence before operating on Medicare patients. So, I'm still waiting.......... IMPATIENTLY....lol
Dr. Rodriquez is my surgeon.
I hope I hear something next week. The 90 deadline is up on Friday. I hope to hear from the by the following Wednesday, at least. We'll see.....
I hope everything gets better for you soon. I know you must feel lowsy. I'm glad it is something that can be fixed easily and without any more pain. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Hi Tina..it's actually an iron infusion, though I have never had one I was visting a center and hospital when someone else was having one, so I went in and visited with her...she didn't complain at all...they make you comfortable then hook you up with an IV...it's really more boring than anything else..Take a book with you or something to keep you entertained. it does take awhile and I remember her it made her very tired duing..biggest problem I would have is being held down that long..lol
This patient told me she was so tired all the time..she emailed me later saying she could tell it helped, she felt much better....don't worry it's not bad at all..
this is a reminder to many of us to take your vitamins and iron, I have my routine and try not to go without ..I take iron, thiamin( I use to take shots for thiamin because of a deficiency, I now take the pills) B-12 and a multivitamin ..
good luck you will do great, please post after to let us know how you did..
Brenda
Brenda,
I will be having the lap band surgery, whenever.... I was just wondering if it constricted people from taking vitamin pills? I know I can get the multivitamin in a spray, but can I do the same with the extra supplements? I just hate the thought of that gritty stuff, if I have to crush them up to swallow them. YUK!
Sharee
Hi Sharee...nope you will have less problems than a RNY patient..and there are some chewable tablets out there, I take the bariatric advantage brand and have been for about a month or so..I feel so much better since taking them..they make one specifically for banders. I am pretty sure that's also chewable and pleasant flavor.. go to their website.

I am not sure how I feel about the spray..somehow I just can't imagine getting all I need from that..so I prefer taking my iron, B-12,(sublingual) and multivitamin through the normal chewable type..I do swallow thiamin though..
Tina,
First, congratulations on your weight loss!!
It is an awesome weight loss!
Second, I hope that you get to feeling better soon, so that you're able to enjoy the new you!!
My mother had an iron transfusion too, and with the exception of being bored, (as Brenda noted) it was nothing to go through.
Take care sweetie and let us know how it went--be well,
Dee

I have had one. It takes about 3 hours to do. I felt 100% better right after I had it. It worked immediately for me. My Primary Care Physician had always threatened me with one because I have always been anemic. I would do it again in a heart beat. My mother also had one, but she is 69 and she did not fell well as quickly.
Tell me this is not the Shelly Moore that works in Dr. Rodriquez's office. If so, why didn't you schedule my scope today? huh? lol If this is MY Shelly Moore, from Dr. Rods office, I'm just kidding. I'm down in the dumps with allergy/sinus stuff. So it didn't bother me that I didn't get a call today. Tomorrow is the 90 day deadline. I hope Norton's is on Medicare's approved list when I check it tomorrow!! I'm so anxious, but getting more scared. I've heard on the boards about people reading the memorial pages, but I don't see them listed to the left on my board. I'm kind of glad, because I don't know if I want to read them or not. I really need to have this done and I don't want anything to change my mind, you know? What does everyone suggest about reading it?
I just wonder, if this isn't that Shelly, how many Shelly Moore's are there in the world? ha ha I'm sure the one I'm talking about is sick of hearing from me though!! ha ha
