iron transfusion anyone had one
Tina, i guess every doctor handles iron diffecencies differently. I had my blood work done and it showed that my iron was 27! this was low and I was told that normal levels run between 50 and 170 so you can guess that i was really feeling tired and run down. My surgeon felt that mine was low due to having two different surgeries withen 4 months, in late December I had a major surgery where the surgeon repaired a huge hernia just under my ribs and he also did a TT at the same time, the day after the surgery i had some unusual bleeding and the surgeon was worried I was bleeding somewhere internally and I had to go back into surgery just 24 hours later and he re cut the whole things looking for a bleed and thankfully there was nothing, it must have fixed itself.
then 3 months later my gallbladder decided it wanted to come out and my surgeon had to cut into the area where he had placed the mesh to fix the huge hernia... had to stay 2 nights for that one...
well then i was just sooo tired and I am the one who told my surgeon I felt i needed IV iron... the way he does it is through a IV but not all at once, I was fitted with a IV and for 5 days, i came to the hospital where the nurse would hook up that IV and I would just sit there in a hospital bed and have an IV infusion, the actual infusion only lasted 30 minutes and I was out of there in about an hour. In about 3 days i felt so much better and at the end of the treatment I could tell a major difference. I kept the same IV needle the whole time, they just cover it up and you can even shower with it on.
I go see my surgeon next week and we will go over the labs I had a few weeks ago and see if I have kept my iron levels up...
I hope this helps
