So, i'm having my RNY on 12/18/06. Unfortunately, this date is causing probs at work. There are 2 full time girls and 1 temp in my department. So the one girl has her vacation for the last two weeks of December and the other one has 5 vacation days left as well. I just feel guilty, but oh well, what can I do???? Someone may end up losing some of their vacation due to me (ouch)!! Then again, shouldn't my employer be prepared for these situations??? Nat

i was in a similar situation before i had my RNY done on November 1st. i felt it was my employers responsibility to cover situations like that, But the more i thought about it, here is what made me stick to the date i chose-- this is my life and my health i'm trying to get back, and who knows what will happen the longer i put it off. i would not feel guilty about what you are doing at all. i think this is one time it is ok to be selfish! the best of luck to you!!! : )

Nat who was scheduled first. And who has the senority. WHy does the one girl still have five days in december not scheduled. if the one girl cannot schedule her days then I wouldn't worry about it. I am planning ahead for my hopeful surgery to coincide with a time that does not become a burden on my coworkers.

Heck no, u should not feel guilty. This surgery is a major life saving, life changing event and if u have the chance to bless your life by having this surgery well, u take that chance and run with it. Honey, this surgery has been one of the best things I could have ever done for myself. I have gone from weighing 324 down to 155. I'm not skinny by no means but I'm a heck of alot smaller than I was. U have your surgery and let them work it out at work.

This is your health. I've been in personel & part of their job is too handle vacations. Don't feel guilty. The other chicks can reschedule & if they don't like it, they can kiss your soon-to-be-smaller butt!!!

Nat, I had to deal with a similar situation. But my employer worked with me and understood that this was a life saving/changing event for me. Your health ALWAYS comes first. I hope everything goes well for you. Congrats on your surgery date. I will pray for you to have an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery. Beth
