I have not been doing good at the preop of low carbs. Everyone has been bringing me my favorite candy (cream candy) because they know I won't be able to eat it afterward. I go Wed. 20th to meet the surgeon and do bari boot camp. Will they post pone my surgery. Im trying to get in the extra protein though. help

Lorrie, Just say NO!!!!!!!!!!! NO more candy. The doctor can refuse to do your surgery if your Blood sugar is too high. You have got to get control now or your WLS is going to be a long trip.

I thought I posted in here but I don't see my post. I know what you mean about not doing so well. With the holidays coming up, it seems like there's sweets and goodies everywhere. But we can do this. When I need a little extra willpower, I just try and think about how good it will feel when I'm 150 lbs. (That's my goal! ) Good luck to you. I will also be at St Joe's tomorrow for the bari boot camp. See you guys there I guess!

Lorrie, What you're feeling is normal and has been felt before. I was touch and go with the low-carb diet pre-op too, but toward the surgery date, I realized I had to buckle down and do what is expected of me from the surgery center. It wasn't for them that I needed to adhere to the program, it was for me. I wanted the surgery to work for me and the only way that was going to happen is if I do what is expected of me. This is a life changing surgery where you can't make any exceptions to the rule. If you do, you become very sick. This surgery doesn't leave it all up to will power anymore, it leaves it up to what your body can tolerate and I can tell you now, most bypass patients can't tolerate candy and other "goodies". I don't want to see you sick and I DO want to see the surgery work for you. Dr. Steiner is a fantastic doc and he will take very good care of you, as will the rest of the staff in the surgery-center. They all want to see their patients succeed and take a personal interest in each and everyone of us. They do their best to motivate us to do our best at having a fighting chance to a new, healthier life. Ultimately, it is up to us to take control and walk the path that they have helped free up for us to travel. I don't want to sound as though I'm lecturing you, but yes, you need to pull your boot straps up and take the rest of this time to do the low carb diet. If you keep having trouble, I would encourage you to call and talk to Amanda or maybe get Karen to give you a list of counselors that help bariatric patients with eating to maybe find a way to help you have better control. Good luck with your surgery-- Dee
