Hey Mark, I have the same problem with my Iron. When I had my 6 month labwork done it was really low. My surgeon recommended Ferrous Fumerate or Ferrous Citrate. They have a little higher potency than the other regular Iron such as Ferrous Sulfate and we absorb it better. I found mine at Rite-Aid and you can also try GNC, The one there in the Super Center didn't have it but they can order it. Congrats on the 104 lbs! Take care.

Are you taking your iron with your calcium? Because if you are, they will cancel each other out. I take 1 in the am & the other in the pm. Dr. Weiss had me to double up on iron & now my blood work is fine. A friend of mine had RYN about 2 years ago & never took any vitamins & now she has to go for iron IV's so you want to avoid that.

Hi Mark, you need ferrour fumarate, and it needs to have vitamenc in it and i find mine at gnc but you need to take it with orange juice vit c helps you absorb it better. My iron was low also but i was getting ready to have to go get iron transfusions,so please talk to your doc if it is that low you will need one, plus he can perscribe you iron also............................vickie

Mark, You may want to ask your doctor about Chromagen. My surgeon puts all of his WLS patients on it post-op. It is mainly an Iron supplement but also has some other vitamins in it as well. -Steve

Mark: I am four years post op G-Bypass and had to have an iron infusion at 2 years due to critcially low iron and ferriten levels. I tried all the iron supplements and couldn't maintain my levels until I found Vitron-C, and since taking that my levels have stayed perfect and in fact gone up a bit! I recommend it to all of our surgery patients now. I found mine at CVS, but others may carry it as well, and it can be ordered through the pharmacist. It contains 200 mg ferrous fumarate (easily absorbed and tolerated by G-Bypass patients) with 125 mg of Vitamin -C for better absorption. Yo would think with that much iron it would cause stomach upset, but so far very well tolerated by our patients. An option you may want to consider. Oh yeah...it is one small pill a day!
