Newbie here!
Dr Shina is just one of the best there is. He is so sweet. Its been almost 2 yrs since I did the pre ops but I'll try to remember lol. Pre op, I went to Suburban and had regular blood work done and a ekg, just a precaution, I then saw a heart dr for clearance and a lung dr. I also chose to have a vena cava filter put in so I saw Dr Salem George Jr for that also at Dr Shinas request. If u have seen him and been to a seminar u know that he has 3 patient categories when it comes to the filters. The filters are just a safety precaution to guard us in case of blood clots, he gives all his patients the option of getting on. I was in filter category b, I'd never had a clot, (still haven't, Thank Goodness) but u never know and I felt safer with it. His rules? After surgery I was on a semi liquid diet for 3 weeks, I could have soups, sugar free jellos, puddings, scrambled eggs. Then after that I could start eating reg stuff. Alot of his patients do not measure in those 2 oz cups that he tells us too. I did. The weight of the food is not important. He told me he didn't care what I crammed in that cup as long as it fit. For the first year I measured all my meals. 2oz 3 times a day. I still drank more than 64 oz of something sugar free a day. I do drink diet sodas. Holly, Dr Shinas wife/nurse said it was ok. Some dr's won't let u have soda. I am not supposed to eat with my meals, but some do. I don't cause it hurts. I take my time and eat small bites. I now eat probably 4oz 3 times a day instead of 6 smaller meals. I've learned that I now eat because I have too not because its something to do. This surgery is a tool and its taught me alot about self discipline. Dr Shina is a nice, personable, understanding man but he's very serious about the surgery, after care. I have never done anything to make him mad, I've always done what I'm supposed to and by listening to him I've lost over 170 pounds and have been at goal since March 06 maintianing my weight. Dr Shina is great about sitting down and talking to u at each check up visit. I saw him the day of my seminar and not again till the day of surgery, but at each and every one of my post op visits he sits down and spends alot of time asking me how I've been, asking me if I have any questions or if everythings ok. All of his staff are wonderful. Holly is a special lady also. I wish u the best and if u have picked Dr Shina, u have already picked one of the best. Add me as a friend if u want on here and my private email is [email protected] just email me anytime. My messenger is [email protected] I look forward to hearing more from u.

P.S. Dr Shina also gave me the choice of having my rny laproscopically or open. I personally chose open because at the time I felt safer with it. I do have a huge long scar going down my belly, but thats ok. I love my scar. It represents my surgery and this surgery has helped me lose weight, something I always thought impossible until I met Dr Shina and his wonderful staff.
Ange,
Thanks so much for replying to me. You gave me alot of great info. My consult is quickly approaching and I am looking forward to it. I pretty much have all of my paperwork that they sent me filled out. Shew that was alot to fill out. lol One thing that I know will be a major no-no is that I smoke and have for manyyyy years. I am in the process of quiting now. I don't know if Dr. Shina has rules on how long he wants patients quit before surgery yet.
I was going to try to join on Dr. Shina's site too but couldnt figure out how. lol I will have to look at it again.
I have you added on here now so I will keep in touch and fell free to holler anytime you wanna talk or anything.
Hugs
