Gastric Bypass help

I am wanting to have this surgery. I have applied for disabbility and I am waiting for my hearing because I was denied twice. My attorny thinks I will get it, or he would not have taken the case as he does not get paid unless I do, but even if I do, I have to waite a year to get any medical coverage. At least this is what I have been told. Does anybody have any ideas as to what I can do. I am going to be 37 this April, if I don't get my disabbility til the end of this year I will be pushing 40 by the time I get my surgery. My Aunt died on the operating table at the age of 43 due to her size and I am terrified!!! She went in to have her stomache stappled and never made it out of surgery. Is there nobody that will help a person that is below the poverty level with no insurance have a possibly life saving surgery?????

Did you apply for SSi or Social Security disabilty? If its just the social security there is a 2 year wait for medicare to kick in.

SSI, there is still a 1 year waite for medicare but from what i am told I could get medicaid and/or passport almost as soon as I am approved. I am keeping my fingers crossed and just hoping to hear from someone that has gone through the same thing as me.

OK,. Yeah if u get SSI u will automaticly get passport/medicaid. Medicare is a whole differant ball game though and there is a required 2 year wait once your approved for social security. I wish u luck with this. I dont know enough about passport with WLS to help any. So sorry.

Medicare will kick in on your one year anniversary of your approval for disability. If you are not working now or have a limited source of income you may qualify for Medicaid, contact your local assistance office for more information. They may have other avenues of assistance for you to pay for your surgery. Good luck.
