Hi, I'm Lori. I live in the Florence area. I'm a nurse in the TCU/ER at St. Elizabeth. I saw Dr. Curry yesterday and my insurance does not cover my lap band. I'm looking into a possible surgery in Mexico, since this is going to be out of pocket. Hopefully Dr Curry can do the post op care and fills as needed. At least I have asked him too. I'm newly married, been overweight a long time. My husband, fortunately, never cared about my weight, but I care. He is supporting me through this 100% though. Glad to meet you guys. Lori

Welcome aboard Lori, I worked at St E...about 10 years ago...I too live in Florence...My Dr. was Dr Sonnanstine at St Luke...and I love him dearly...I had surgery 3 months ago and have lost over 50 pounds...and feel wonderful...I had bi pass...Good luck to you...Keep us posted...on your progress. Thanks. Glad to hear you're progressing well. It felt like such a kick in the stomach when I found out I was not covered. But hopefully I will find another alternative. I look at it like this, it's about the price of a new car. And I would MUCH rather have a new body than a new car! I'm looking into Mexican surgeons. They do it for half the cost. Lori I live in NKY also and Dr Sonnanstine Did my surgery I aplaude your commitment to wanting the surgery to change your life... I also want to tell you please be careful and do your research... I know alot of Dr's Cringe when you mention Mexico first they are going to tell you that if you get back and there are complication... Who do you go to.... Dr's in the area are thriving in this area from WLS surgeries they can find it hard working on a patient that had a surgery in another country if it goes bad.... Just do your research be a smart consumer and most of all pay attention to the details ... ask the questions.... I was denied the band 2 years ago and opted for the bypass.. It was a choice I now stand by... I not detouring you from this because I also know a few people that had great success in mexico and also know of some Dr. in the U.S that have id some unbelievable things... ASK QUESTIONS.... We all will support any choice you decide to make..........

Hi Lori and Good Luck. I live in Erlanger and I had Dr. Sonnanstine. He is wonderful. I know the surgery can be financed and I know that the doctor gives a discount if you have to pay out of pocket. I just thought I would mention that. I have been to seminars where they spoke of people going out of the country. They said the same thing Ron mentioned but I was lucky and my insurance covered it but I had the bypass done laproscopic. I would have done anything to get this done. Good luck and do your homework. Hi Lori, Welcome! Dr. Sonnanstine is my doctor as well. And as the others have said....please choose wisely. I know how badly you want to have this done, but making sure you have a safe surgery is priority.
