My Daughter

My daughter has been very obese since starting at the age of 6. She is now 28 years old and is about 300+ pounds. Im afraid if we don't do something she will die young. I recommend my surgeon Mark Shina to everyone. Everyone thinks their dr is the best. U really have to research and just go with someone u feel u can trust. I made a post a few post down about my first visit and seminar with Dr Shina. U can schedule a free seminar with him and just see what u and your daughter think. I am 29 now. I weighed 324 lbs the morning I met him for my seminar and I had my gastric bypass 3/24/05 I weighed 313 that morning. I now have been under his goal since March 2006 and maintaining my weight loss. Hi Sheree, You don't mention where you live. I'm in Northern Kentucky and recommend Dr. Sonnanstine. I also am very timid about going to the doctor and I have to say Dr. Sonnanstine is the best. I've never felt awkward and feel I can talk to him about anything. He has excellent credentials and an amazing pre-op and post-op program. If your daughter would like to talk to someone that has had the surgery, tell her to send me a message. I'm happy to talk to her and answer any questions. As, I'm sure, everyone else on here would do the same.

I have not yet had surgery, Sheree, but I have been seeing a surgeon that is most excellent at the Center for Weight Loss (St. Joe's East) in Lexington. Dr. Josh Steiner. I could probably tell you a lot more about him next week after I have my surgery, but if you're interested in finding out more info, they do offer a free seminar and anyone is welcome to attend. I am not for sure where you are from but of course most on here or going to say their doctor is the best and of course I will have to say my DR, John Oldham, Jr with Georgetown Bariatrics which is a Center of Excellance. Please do your research throughly. There is a informational seminar at the Georgetown Hospital on Friday at 2:00 pm and Saturday at 10:00 am please come and check them out. Since we are in Louisville Kentucky, I have looked up an Obesity Specialist Located at Norton Suburban (Part of Jewish Healthcare Network), who seem to be good doctors........They have done 140+ surgeries. There is the Bariatic Center at Nortons Pavillion downtown. That is who I am planning on doing my surgery. There are several doctors there that have performed many of the weight loss surgeries. If you want more info, I will be glad to provide it to you. They have seminars you can attend and get the paperwork packet you will need to complete. Best of luck!

Just a quick note to your reply on the concern you have for your daughter. I am a 33 year old female who had the gastric bypass done in Louisville at Norton's on March 28, 2005. I was 300 pounds before having surgery with family concerns on my health as well. I know it must be a burden for you. I have managed to shed over 100 pounds as well as coming off of 4 meds. Since August of 06, I have been battling with depression as well as some anxiety - and have been going to the doctor with this. If it's any consolation to you - I live about 45 minutes north of Louisville - and can meet up somewhere to talk to the both of you. Just email me and let me know.
