I know this is a stupid question, one of those that say yes, Ange, u r an unnatural blonde but we love ya anyways, what the heck does RSVP mean on the bottom of invitations? I'm filling out invitations for my niece's 2nd bday party I'm having her Feb 11 and at the bottom it has RSVP. I've seen this before and saw people's phone numbers there so I assume I put mine in that line. I just want to know exactly what it means? Thanks for answering this silly question! Ange

Hi Ange, According to the website http://www.howstuffworks.com - R.S.V.P. stands for a French phrase, "répondez, s'il vous plaît," which means "please reply." The person sending the invitation would like you to tell him or her whether you accept or decline the invitation. That is, will you be coming to the event or not? Etiquette rules followed in most Western cultures require that if you receive a formal, written invitation, you should reply promptly, perhaps that same day. For hosts who are planning a dinner party, a wedding or a reception, this is important from a practical point of view, because they need to know how many people to count on and how much food and drink to buy. More important, though, is the simple courtesy of responding to someone who was nice enough to invite you, even if it is to say that you regret that you will not be able to attend. I googled it.. lol Katrina

lol Katrina..I was so impressed, I was thinking ..man this lady knows her etiquette, then I saw the last line..isn't googling great?!?! lol I would also like to add it's not only nice to know ahead of time how many folks will be there..but when my daughter got married this summer we had to give them a count, then paid for that count. In other words if you tell them 100 people responded but lets say 75 show up, you prepaid for 100 so that;s your loss and how the hall makes more money..we had to pay in the fee an extra 3.00 per person, for beer.. doesn't matter if 20 of that count are children. I can't complain to much since the hall gave us a break since the groom was in Iraq during the planning, came home for the wedding then went back to Iraq..anyway, just wanted to add my two cents..for what that is worth!!
