Home and Frustrated (written yesterday in main forum)
I wanted to share this in the Ky room with my state support system. Well as you have read my surgery date was Feb 5 2007 7:30 am... Well I went to Georgetown last night spent the night and went to the hospital this morning. I am back home. Why? Well I felt myself getting sick Friday and I went to the dr. I told him I needed help I was scheduled for surgery Monday. He checked me out and I had a sinus infection. He gave me 3 meds, told me to get plenty of rest and I should be ok for Monday. I have been in bed all weekend, and I went to the hospital today feeling much better. (Or so I thought) They prepped me and took my temp and it was 100 degrees. They asked if I had been sick and I said yes, I am taking an antibiotic and have been for 4 days. They called my surgeon in surgery and he said to call the internal doctor that works with him and ask his opinion. Well he said NO WAY. They wouldn't operate , he also fit me in to visit his office in 20 minutes while I was at Georgetown. Well not only do I have a sinus infection I also have an ear infection. He said the Azithromyacin was NOT working and gave me another scrip. I cried I have waited 8 months for this day.. This is where the thankful part comes in... he told me that he had a lady in there that didn't tell them she had been sick, and they did the surgery and she had been in Georgetown hospital fighting Pneumonia for weeks. I am thankful that I was honest. 2 hours away is a long way to be away from your family for 2 weeks. I am rescheduled for February 21st and I am grateful. Georgetown Bariatrics and Dr. Lyons worked together like a charm to reschedule me asap. I guess you will have to save my seat on the losers bench a little while longer. At least I am going to be alive and well to use it.
Lesa, I feel your pain. Two nights before my surgery, I got sick too. I didn't have a fever, thank God, but I was suffering non the less with that sinus/throat thing. I was so afraid they would cancel my operation, I actually considered not letting them know that I was sick. I was going to fake it one way or another.
I didn't though, because I was afraid that I would have complications that I wouldn't be able to cope with. Fortunately for me, everything worked out and it's going to work out for you too.
You'll be happier when it's all done and said for, knowing that you didn't put your health at risk for the surgery.
Congratulations on your date by the way! And don't worry, there's plenty of room on the losers bench.
Take care--
Dee

Lesa, don't get discouraged and always know the docs are looking out for you.
This should send a message to any pre-op reading the board..if you need to go on medication and are very near your surgery date. Have your doc call the center to speak to your surgeon about the medication you are taking, it's so important they know what's going on..Anytime you go under anesthesia there are risks..so don't take any unnecessary ones.
Good luck and keep us informed of your new date..you will be on the losing side before you know it!
