My knees are one of the main reasons I am having the surgery. I have a fractured knee that will not heal and it hurts most of the day. i have to go up about 30 stairs up to my office every day which takes my breath as well as makes my knees scream. My question to you would be did this surgery help your knees? i am anxious to hear your replies. Lesa

Lisa, I've not had surgery yet either, and also need a knee replaced. And have had a hip replaced, (and need the other one replaced also) I lost weight after the hip surgery, (but gained it back because I still can't walk like I need to , but I could tell the difference after I lost with the hips and knees, so I like you am hoping that this surgery will help all my joints and delay the hip surgery for awhile. My ortho surgeon, wrote a letter of recommendation for me for wls surgery, that is how much he believed that it would help my joints. The knee surgery will come soon after I lose about 75lbs or so. Good luck and take care... God's Blessing for you and yours Belinda

Hi Lesa, I do have trouble with arthritis in my knees. I was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was 15. They mostly bother me when the weather is changing or if I've been more active than normal. Before surgery, being more active than normal meant doing more than walking from the house to the car and from the car into work! Now I can exercise by walking 2 miles or doing an aerobic walking video without any knee pain. I can also walk the mall or anywhere else I want for hours without problems. I also have noticed that since losing weight that the weather also doesn't bother me nearly as much. I'm not sure how losing weight will affect your knee pain since yours is caused by a fractured knee, but I would think that less weight would mean less stress on the joint. Chris

My knees have improved so much since surgery, I had to walk with a cane sometimes, now I can walk 2 miles, I do have to be careful not to twist my knees but losing weight has helped sooo much. I have several flower beds and had to bend over from my waist to do anything in them, mostly my dd did most of the work to them, this year I will be good to go on them. I wish I had the surgery sooner.

MY KNEES OH YEAH !!!!!!!!! That was my Number 1 reason. When I saw I coulf not get up and down off the floor to play with my only grandchild when he wanted to play blocks and when a 2 year old offers to help me get up that was sad. I never want him to think granny cant play and he doesnt ask me because I cant get up and down.. My Ortho Doc said that it wasnt gonna get better only worse if I didnt loose weight so this is my main focus . I need to work and have a life and my knees and ankles plan a huge part in that. Hang in there I hope help is on the way for us all. Charolette working on a surgury date.
