i had my surgery jan. 18th this year. i have been back in the hospital and had another surgery due to wound infection and that resulted in a hole been accidently in my bowels. i am now on a wound vac. but the thing is all the protein drinks make me so sick.i'm really worried about that. i have lost 25 lbs so far. has anyone else had this problem? also....i am trying so hard to deal with missing certain foods....is this normal and if so...will i finally stop. i know its mostly mental because i'm not hungry and the sight of it isnt really appealing...but when i think about it....i almost have regrets because of the way i feel...i know that sounds terrible but i really need some support here....lol....i hope to make alot of new friends....looking forward to any advice. thanks Sheila

I try to freeze my protein and I use Whey vanilla I get at Wal Mart freezing it makes it sorta like home made ice cream to me. Good luck with getting your protein down. Besure to mix it really well.

Sheila, I feel your pain honey...I had plastic surgery with a hernia repair on Nov. 6th..I had complications with the hernia repair..my incision opened and I ended up on the wound vac myself..I wore it all Dec then I had to have another surgery on Dec 27th to have the mesh removed because it became infected, then back on the wound va****il the end of January.. I was told by Dr. Jacques of bariatric advantage as well as Dr. Sonnanstine (the surgeon who took over my care and ordered the wound vac) that I needed tons of protein, sooooo..I gaged down 110 grams a day..I healed very quickly. I also drank something called ProMend sent to me by bariatric advantage as a trial..it worked very well. I know it's hard to find a good protein drink but to heal it's a must...I use to drink something from GNC, I also have tons of samples from different vendors, but I settled on the Walmart brand and am doing fine with that. It's inexpensive and taste pretty good .. It's a whey protein called Body Fortress, I chose chocolate and add a little lactose free milk with ice cubes. it taste something like chocolate milk...thanks to Amy, Jane and Sarah for their advice on this protein drink...for your health please find one you can tolerate, you will grow to love them after awhile. I can't start my day without one. I was very fortunate that I trust Dr. Sonnanstine and came to him after my plastics..he and his nurse Taryn rescued me as I felt very low at that point. I have told them many times I cannot imagine going through this without having them to not only help me through this medically but emotionally as well. I do understand what you are going through..I am still dealing with an open wound that often times is painful...but it does get better, little by little. Take care and good luck! Brenda

Do you drink coffee? If you do...I put the vanilla from walmart into my decaf coffee with one splenda, and some French Vanilla coffee creamer. It goes down a whole lot easier for me to get that down than the shakes. I hope that you feel better soon, Gina

i haven't had my surgery yet, but some of the proteins I have sampled are unjury, (all flavors) and profect, (berry citrus is the best), and also EAS from Wal-mart, it is a ready made drink, sorta like slim-fast or atkins....I like all these items right now, just hoping I still will after surgery, because sometimes your tastes change. I also like every flavor of Atkins protein drinks, but some surgeons do not like for you to use slimfast or atkins drinks. Have you talked you your nutrionist about this??

You want to chose the drink that is highest in protein...also watch your sugar content. Ask your dietician/nutritionist what they prefer as far as ingredients and go from that. If you are not getting the recommended amounts and nutritional substance you are just using up your calories in drink with no benefit to you. If you have not had surgery then it's important for healing to chose the right protein in the beginning, after awhile you can play around with many different brands until you find something you like.
