I'm 13 days post-op and I fought off a craving last night that was so hard. Is this normal. I would have killed for a piece of toast with butter. God even now that sounds so good. I just want to taste it. What is wrong with me? Also another thing is evething taste so sweet. Is this normal? I used to love chocolate, right now I would rather not have anything with chocolate. There has got to be something wrong with me. Do I hold strong or do I do something to stop this from happening. Looking for answers please help! Charlotte

HI Charlotte. This is pretty normal I think. I am a year out and still have the cravings. I have found that if I eat before I am hungry, that this helps. I know that sounds weird, but I have found this helps me to not overeat and that it really cuts back on my cravings. Are you ever going to be able to eat toast again? I do occasionally, when I have a tummy upset or something, but at 13 days out I would not try it personally. If they persist, I would speak to your nutrionist. I also went through the phase of thinking I would crave something I really loved, like chocolate, but like you, I did not really want it. That will change too..lol, I crave chocolate once a month now..some things never change...

It's *completely* normal! After my surgery, Wendy's was putting out (still, even now) those frecshetta sandwiches. Every time I see the commercial, I could literally taste and feel the sandwich in my mouth. I had a grieving process. I cried for 2 days that I could no longer eat what I want. My hubby would make me some protein soup and I'd just cry that it wasn't a plate full of spaghetti. (or that sandwich) I still get cravings, but not near as bad as I used to. I'm 5 months post-op and have lost 87lbs. I hope to reach the century mark before next month; my 6 month anniversary. One thing that will help subside those cravings is to acknowledge them mentally and get that protein in physically. I was getting in at least 75-80 grams protein at first (about 60-65g now) right after surgery. It helps with the healing and cravings, so be sure to get it in. Good luck and I do feel your pain! Dee

1st of all.......you ARE normal! You've just had open heart surgery on your stomach 13 days ago, give yourself time. A lot of people can't eat dairy. In my case, I have a hard time w/bread & pasta. Which is good in a way because I was a carb pig! Sweets do taste really sweet to me now & if I over eat, I'll get the lovely dumping but I savor chocolate now instead of gobbelling it down. Try to be strong beacuse if you eat something that isn't on your diet, you'll be so sick. Are you doing protein shakes? They help me a lot. Hang in there. It'll get better.
