Needing more info about Dr. Nighbert and his team...
Hi Everyone! I am going to meet my MIL WLS surgeon (Dr. Nighbert) next week. She is scheduled for surgery in the next month or so and wanted to know any and all information about this doc and his medical team & hospital. We have done lots of research, but thought I would get some more honest information from those of you that have had or going to have the surgery by him. Please let me know any information, advise, or questions that I need to ask when meeting with him with my MIL.
Thanks!
The Bariatric Center at St. Joe's is the best. I had my surgery there and have not been disappointed in my care in the least. My husband as well had the surgery there and he too is very happy with the care.
You will come to appreciate the team in the center and will soon be put at ease, because they personify quality and excellence. They have a thorough screening process, (to make sure the potential surgery patient is healthy enough for surgery) fantastic aftercare program, and are always available to answer any questions or concerns.
I can not speak well enough about St. Joseph hospital, because the care I got there after my surgery was beyond any expectations I imagined. The nurses were very attentive, while at the same time gave you peace and privacy to rest.
It is not a wonder to me why St. Joes is on the top 100 list of hospitals nationwide; their care for me and my husband has exemplified what one may expect of excellence.
Dr. Nighbert is not my doctor, and I have only met him a few times. I will tell you this of him, he instills confidence of his abilities in you. He is thorough, experienced and has a great record of his care to his patients.
I went with Dr. Steiner and I don't have enough space to write how I feel about him. He has changed my opinion of Dr.'s and restored my faith in the medical field. He has given me a new life and my only question there is, how do you thank someone for that?
Donna the receptionist is fantastic as is Karen, Lilly, Billie, and Amanda. Well, they're all fantastic!
Your MIL made a great decision going with St. Joes and I am confident she will not be disappointed. Good luck to you and her and it's good to see you support her decision.
Take care--
Dee

Hello!
I can not comment on Dr. Nighbert, but some questions I would ask would be:
Mortality Rate
Percentage of Leaks they have
Things like this
I am sure that you can compare to the average at www.asbs.com
hope this helps,
Gina

Thanks Gina,
I have so many questions that I want to cover before she undergoes the surgery and not just the surgery alone, but what the lifestyle changes are and if my MIL accepts this reality yet or not. I have read from some many that they really didn't expect the lifestyle change (eating habits) afterward.
Mortatlity rate and leaks are a huge concern for us. We lost a family member due to a leak already (not by this surgeon) and I don't want that to happen again. I do not want to offend Dr. Nighbert or his team/hospital by asking these questions, but it's something that we definitely want to know. Did you ask these questions and do you all think they will be honest in answering?
Hey there ~
I'm also a patient of the Center for Weight Loss and I agree 100% with Dee. They've been wonderful to me. My surgeon was Dr. Steiner as well, but I did meet Dr. Nighbert a couple times, and he has an excellent reputation too. He's very experienced. When I was in the hospital, on the day I left, he came in to take my drain out. He was very quick about it, and to be honest, he's not as upbeat and friendly as Dr. Steiner, but I appreciate that he's been doing it for a long time, and the patients of his that I know all like him.
Good luck with everything. If you have any specific questions for me, just shoot me a message or email. [email protected]
